Among the many upcoming films, the reboot of Highlander is generating a lot of buzz. Directed by Chad Stahelski and starring a huge cast including Henry Cavill, Dave Bautista, Russell Crowe, and more, the fantasy movie has had fans excited since it was first announced. Recently, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, attendees were shown some early footage and received an update on the project.
Henry Cavill shared an update via video message at the event, letting everyone know that filming for the movie is only about 50% complete. He believes they’re already making something really special. Details about the footage shown at the event are available below.
First Footage of Highlander Screened at CinemaCon

The new footage begins with Henry Cavill stating his character’s identity: “I am Connor MacLeod. I was born in 1518. And I am immortal.” We then see him in a sword fight within a brightly lit dance club. The fight scenes are mixed with behind-the-scenes shots, giving viewers a glimpse of how the film was made, including Cavill practicing his sword fighting. Marisa Abela discusses the demanding nature of her role, accompanied by action sequences featuring her character. The footage is visually striking, with vivid colors and reveals impressively large and detailed sets. It concludes with the cast shouting “There can be only one,” and a cliffhanger moment of Dave Bautista’s character, The Kurgan, choking Abela’s character.
Highlander Seems to Be Making Real Progress After an Epic Journey
Fans will be happy to hear that the Highlander reboot is finally moving forward, especially considering how long it’s been in development. Dave Bautista first committed to the role of The Kurgan ten years ago, and Henry Cavill joined as Connor in 2021. Production officially began in 2025, after the project shifted from Lionsgate to Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists. Filming was briefly paused due to an injury to Cavill, but it’s now back on track, and this first look at the footage is incredibly exciting.
