Since its release in 1987, Spaceballs has become a beloved parody film, and fans have long hoped for a sequel. The original playfully poked fun at Star Wars and other aspects of pop culture, and with geek culture now so prominent, a new film feels especially fitting. Good news – Spaceballs 2 is officially happening! At a recent CinemaCon presentation, the film revealed its title and showed off footage proving the franchise still has its signature humor.
The Spaceballs 2 segment began with a message from Dark Helmet, but quickly transitioned to the iconic trailer voiceover. The footage is presented as a behind-the-scenes look at how Spaceballs 2 was approved, explaining the intentionally incomplete special effects. We see Dark Helmet wielding a triple lightsaber, followed by a bizarre shot of Harry Potter. The clip culminates in a final scene featuring Avatar and Dark Helmet sharing an awkward moment at a urinal, discussing size. After showing the footage, Mel Brooks announced the official title: Spaceballs: The New One.
Spaceballs: The New One Is Shaping Up To Be An All-Star Reunion

I’m so excited – it’s finally happening! A new Spaceballs movie is in the works, and it’s being directed by Josh Greenbaum with a script from Josh Gad. Apparently, the idea they pitched was amazing because it’s brought back all the original cast members – the people who made the first film so special! It’s going to be fantastic.
Mel Brooks, the creator of the comedy classic Spaceballs, is returning to the series and is expected to play the character of Yogurt again – a funny take on Yoda from Star Wars. Excitingly, Rick Moranis is also coming out of retirement to reprise his role as Dark Helmet, a hilarious parody of Darth Vader. Bill Pullman (as Lone Star), Daphne Zuniga (as Princess Vespa), and George Wyner (as Colonel Sanders) are also set to return.
The cast will also include some new faces, like Lewis Pullman, who will play Starburst – the son of the character Lone Star. It’s a clever choice, as Lewis is actually the real-life son of Bill Pullman, who plays Lone Star! Keke Palmer is also joining the series as a character named Destiny, and some fans speculate she might be a humorous take on the character Rey.
The cast includes Anthony Carrigan and Josh Gad, both in currently unknown roles. Interestingly, Josh Gad also wrote the screenplay for the project, taking on a dual role as both actor and writer.
Spaceballs: The New One hits theaters on April 23, 2027.
