Given the massive popularity of Star Trek, it’s not surprising that many video games based on the franchise have been released over the years. Fans have always had plenty of ways to explore the Star Trek universe through games, from classic board games to role-playing games. However, one of those games has recently disappeared from digital stores, and fans are upset that they weren’t given any notice.
Star Trek: Resurgence is an adventure game that came out in 2023. It was created by Dramatic Labs, a studio formed by former members of the well-known story-driven game developer, Telltale Games. The game was previously available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X|S, but it has now been removed from all digital stores. This happened shortly after a notice appeared on Steam stating the game’s license had expired, and as of April 15th, you can no longer purchase Star Trek: Resurgence on any platform.
Star Trek: Resurgence Vanishes from Storefronts Hours After Official Notice

I was really surprised to find out that Resurgence is already basically gone! It came out just a few years ago, but it’s been pulled from Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. For those who don’t know, it’s a story-driven game where you play as an officer and engineer on the U.S.S. Resolute – you make choices that affect the story. It even had Spock and Riker in it, which was cool! It never blew up – the most players it ever had on Steam at once was only around 660 – but people who did play it seemed to really like it, giving it a ‘Very Positive’ rating. It’s just weird seeing it disappear so suddenly.
It’s become increasingly common for games to be removed from digital stores. This can happen for various reasons, like the costs of maintaining online games or when licensing agreements expire. Usually, fans get about a month’s notice when a game is going to be delisted. That’s why fans of Star Trek are upset that Star Trek: Resurgence was taken down from stores with less than 24 hours’ warning.
So, I was pretty bummed to see that Star Trek: Resurgence is no longer available to buy. The publisher dropped a quick message on April 14th saying the game’s license had expired, and they pulled it from stores almost immediately after. Luckily, if you already own it, you can still play – it’s not an online game or anything. But a lot of fans, myself included, were a little annoyed that they took it off sale so quickly after announcing it. It just felt really fast!

Just before the game was removed from sale, Star Trek: Resurgence was discounted on Steam. Many gamers have noticed the timing of this and the delisting announcement, with one Reddit user expressing frustration that the developers likely knew the game’s license was expiring but didn’t mention it during the sale. Fans say they would have appreciated knowing the game was going to be removed sooner so they could have purchased it at the lower price.
So, it looks like Star Trek: Resurgence isn’t available to buy anymore, which is a real bummer! If I was quick enough to snag it during a sale, though, I’m still able to download and play it. From what I understand, unless they work out a new deal with the people selling it, or someone else steps in, it’s probably going to stay that way. Fingers crossed they can figure something out!
