Hilary Duff knows a thing or two about letting something go when it’s over.
Hilary Duff has spoken openly about her 2015 split from hockey player Mike Comrie, explaining that the breakup happened quickly.
Okay, so Hilary was talking on Call Her Daddy, and honestly, I was hanging on every word! She said she couldn’t even pinpoint the moment she decided things had to end, which is so relatable, right? She just kept saying it wasn’t working anymore, and it broke my heart a little, but it was so honest. Like, it wasn’t some big dramatic thing, just…it wasn’t working.
Honestly, the toughest thing about the split for me was figuring out how to do what was best for Luca, who was just a little kid back then – only thirteen now, but it feels like yesterday! It was all about him, even then.
She remembered the most difficult part was accepting the situation and the emotions that came with it. It was a frightening time, and she just didn’t want to make any mistakes when it came to her child.
She explained that he needed immediate attention, and she had to handle everything else afterward to ensure he was alright.
Hilary and Mike, together since 2007 and married for three years, were fortunately able to agree on how to make their divorce easier for their son.
Hilary remembers that he seemed happy with how things were going. She explained she had laid everything out for him, and he had responded positively. She made a real effort to keep things calm and ensure they could continue to enjoy time together.
Hilary and her now-husband, Matthew Koma, share three children: Banks, age 7, Mae, age 4, and Townes, who is 20 months old. She playfully referred to her split from Mike as a “conscious uncoupling,” referencing the term made popular by Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin when they separated.

She explained that their exchanges weren’t just quick drop-offs and pick-ups. They’d often go to the park or grab a meal together. It was very important to her that Luca felt comfortable and relaxed during these times.
Even though their relationship is over, Hilary shared that she still remembers their time together with fondness.
She remembered having a wonderful time. She wasn’t focused on her job then; Mike was busy with hockey, and she happily joined him, traveling to stay with him whenever his games took him. They were simply enjoying life together.

Following Ashley Tisdale’s essay about difficult experiences with a mothers’ group, many people wondered if Hilary Duff was involved. Shortly after, Hilary’s husband, Matthew Koma, publicly defended her.
Now, Hilary is ready to come clean about her perspective.
She shared on the February 25th episode of Call Her Daddy that she was deeply saddened by something she’d read. She explained that she’s a very social person with many close friends – both those she’s known for years and new friends she’s made through motherhood, having four children. She was shocked and hurt to read something untrue, not just for herself, but because it affected the reputations of about six other women as well.

Lalaine, known for her role in Lizzie McGuire, revealed she deliberately went to the premiere of Freaky Friday in 2003 to upset Lindsay Lohan, with whom she had a long-standing rivalry stemming from both dating Aaron Carter. Despite their past conflict, the two have since made amends and are on good terms.
Looking back after all this time, it just doesn’t seem important anymore,” she said. “Honestly, it’s water under the bridge. Actually, Lindsay approached me at a club once and asked if we were okay. I told her we were, and then she suggested taking a shot together, which I agreed to.

Hilary recently discussed her relationship with her sister Haylie, especially following the release of her song “We Don’t Talk.” She explained that while she’s often tried to be direct in her relationships, she’s now expressing herself through her music.
Hilary said that after a decade away from making music, she felt she had to reflect on what had happened in her life. She explained that the past ten years, with all the significant events – both good and bad – had shaped who she is, and a lot of it hadn’t been easy. She acknowledged that’s just part of life.
She explained that because she was on Lizzie McGuire, a lot of people feel like they’ve known her family – her mom, dad, and sister – for years. She finds it strange that people are so interested in her close-knit family, but also feels vulnerable sharing personal things, especially online. However, she feels it’s important to be honest about how she’s feeling.

Although many fans recall Hilary Duff and Aaron Carter meeting when he appeared on Lizzie McGuire, Hilary recently shared the real story of how they first connected, especially in light of his passing in 2022.
She shared that she met him at his birthday party, where they had an instant connection. Shortly after, she suggested he appear on her show, and they quickly began dating.

Hilary Duff and her then-husband, Mike Comrie, welcomed their son, Luca, in 2012. They separated almost two years later, a split Duff described as a natural progression.
Eventually, things reached a breaking point. I think he was okay with ending things because I clearly laid out my reasons, and he just agreed. This was all before the idea of ‘conscious uncoupling’ became popular. My parents had a really difficult divorce, so even mentioning that term felt hurtful, but ultimately, we just weren’t compatible anymore. It was clearly bad enough that the relationship couldn’t continue.
It was a difficult situation, especially because our child was so young, not even two years old. I really tried my best to make the transitions as smooth and positive as possible. It wasn’t just about quick drop-offs and pickups; we’d go to the park or have a meal together. I wanted Luca to feel comfortable and secure throughout the whole process.
