It took nearly thirty years for a sequel to the 1993 film Hocus Pocus to arrive in 2022, but fans won’t have to wait as long for the third movie in the series.
According to Deadline, a sequel is being planned with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy all returning to play the Sanderson sisters.
The previous movie was released directly on Disney+, but reports suggest the new one might be shown in theaters first. However, Disney hasn’t officially confirmed these plans yet.
Talk of a third movie surfaced in 2023, but those plans lost momentum when Sean Bailey, who previously led Disney Studios’ film production, departed the company in 2024.
The project seems to be moving forward! Although details about the story haven’t been released yet, actress Meredith Middler mentioned in 2025 that she had read a fantastic script and was really enthusiastic about the film.
The last movie was a big hit for Disney+, earning a record 2.7 billion minutes of watch time in its first week, even though critics didn’t completely agree on it.
In our review, we described the movie as inconsistent, but noted it worked best when embracing classic Halloween fun and honoring the original film.
Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale, and Hannah Waddingham joined the movie’s cast, alongside the original three actors. However, it’s currently unknown which of these actors will return for the sequel, or who will be directing it.
We’re following this story closely and will share more details as soon as we have them.
