Okay, so I’m still reeling from Linda and Grant getting together on EastEnders yesterday, and apparently, things are about to get even more surprising… I can’t believe it!
With local elections heating up in Walford, Ian Beale and Elaine Peacock became rivals, both eager to earn the support of their neighbors. Their competition had been building for months as they each campaigned for votes.
It all began when Ian saw this huge billboard advertising a local B&B’s breakfast special, and honestly, he was furious. As a small business owner myself, I could kind of see his side – he was worried it would steal customers away from his own places, and he wasn’t happy about it at all.
Despite initially refusing to compromise, Elaine and the other party eventually reached an agreement where she would send customers to his café. However, during one of their arguments, Kathy Beale was accidentally hurt. Following this, Ian announced he was going to run for local office.
The candidates haven’t always worked well together. Elaine tried to hinder Ian’s campaign by getting Oscar Branning to cause trouble, but her plan backfired when Oscar also started interfering with her own work.

There was a short period of peace recently, and they agreed to be respectful. They even shared a meal of fish and chips at the bed and breakfast, but things became awkward when Linda showed up.
Their friendly relationship didn’t last long, and Elaine asked Oscar to replace Ian’s prepared speech with a different one. When Oscar began speaking about his plans, he quickly realized he’d been tricked and started reciting the theme song from the TV show Neighbours instead.
Yes, really.
Okay, so Elaine definitely saw she’d been a bit of a bully, and she owned up to it. She admitted that her pre-planned, stuffy remarks weren’t what anyone wanted to hear, and promised things would be different from then on – a genuine attempt to level the playing field. It felt like a surprisingly honest moment, and a welcome one, honestly.
Ian, extremely angry, let his girlfriend Bea Pollard (Ronni Ancona) share a damaging video online. The video attacked Elaine’s ability to do the job and also brought up Linda’s past experiences with rehab.
Today’s episode showed that the bad feelings between them were back with full force. They met at the community center hoping to get some last-minute votes.
Kathy playfully told Ian he had her vote, but secretly voted for Elaine. She later confessed to her partner, Harvey Monroe, that her son becomes unbearable when involved in local politics.
She also prevented Peter Beale (Thomas Law) from going to the retirement home to share Ian’s ideas.

As voting was ending, Ian spoke to Elaine and asked her to put aside the video Bea had posted. He complimented her, calling her a good person and acknowledging she had run a strong campaign.
He did seem truly sorry – but Elaine was genuinely hurt.
The votes were tallied, and Ian won with 1,406 votes, while Elaine received 637. She was heartbroken and went home, only to be surprised to find Ian waiting for her.
Despite achieving success, he admitted he’d never felt so disappointed in himself. What started as an apology quickly escalated into a fight, but then he surprised her by kissing her!
Elaine then reciprocated, but in their moment of madness, Ian panicked and ran out.
Is a new romance on the cards between Beale and Peacock?
