Unannounced XCOM-Like Worms Game Unveiled in Leaked Footage, Screenshots

Update [May 7, 2026, 11:30am]: After screenshots were leaked (see below), @EvilLeeker has released several minutes of gameplay video of the upcoming, unannounced Worms game.

Like Worms, but with the strategic depth of XCOM, this game is a turn-based tactics experience. On your turn, you’ll move each of your units around the grid and then use their abilities or weapons to attack the opposing team.

Levels are relatively small, but you can still destroy parts of them. Some attacks have special effects, such as pushing enemies back or temporarily stunning them.

Once you finish a level, you’ll earn coins that can be used to improve your abilities. While it’s not explicitly stated, these upgrades hint that the game might have elements of a roguelike, meaning levels could change with each playthrough.

The video strongly suggests the game is real, and we can expect an official announcement soon.

The Worms games have been popular for years, and even though they aren’t as widely played now, Team 17 continues to release new versions, including one for the PlayStation 5.

The studio seems to be developing a new Worms game, which many expected. However, a recent leak suggests they’re trying something different with this installment.

A new Worms game, currently known as Project Arrakis, is being tested, according to a source online who goes by the name Evil Leeker man.

Funnily enough, the first leak came in response to the seemingly fake Assassin’s Creed leak:

Recent leaks have revealed screenshots of a game that hasn’t been officially announced, along with details from Steam that seem to confirm its existence.

The new game is called Worms Galactic Tactics, and early screenshots suggest it’s a 3D, turn-based strategy game similar to XCOM.

Since Worms is already a turn-based strategy game, even though it’s in 2D and allows players to move freely, this new direction feels like a logical and sensible step.

Assuming this information is real – and the source isn’t very trustworthy – the many screenshots circulating make it seem likely to be true.

The gaming world is gearing up for a big month of announcements, with Summer Game Fest just around the corner. There’s a good chance we’ll hear about a new Worms game soon, but we’ll have to wait for confirmation.
