As of 2025, *Hollow Knight: Silksong* is the top-rated game released so far. After a long wait since 2017, developer Team Cherry has largely met the high expectations of its fans. While the game is a fantastic sequel that delivers on what fans wanted, some players have found it more challenging than the original *Hollow Knight*.
Team Cherry is working on an update to address player feedback about the game’s difficulty. While the update will make the game generally easier, some specific issues won’t be fixed. A major point of discussion among fans is the ‘double contact damage’ – getting hit twice in quick succession. The original game had damage from contact, and even double damage in some cases, but it didn’t have damage stacking from multiple hits at once, as contact damage was usually limited to one instance per mask. Recently, many players on the game’s Reddit page have been asking Team Cherry to adjust this system.
“It Just Doesn’t Make Logical Sense”
Players have reported that enemies who are stunned still deal double damage when touched, specifically mentioning the boss Moorwing as an example. One player stated, “Stunned enemies shouldn’t deal double damage on touch.”
One popular comment perfectly sums up the feeling: “I completely agree with the idea of increased damage, but it needs some adjustments.” Specifically, players feel that damage from directly hitting enemies shouldn’t be doubled, and smaller enemies during boss fights shouldn’t deal double damage either, as it doesn’t seem realistic or fair.
One player noted that enemies shouldn’t inflict extra damage simply by touching you. They clarified that damage from a charging attack makes sense, but receiving the same amount of damage from a light brush is frustrating and feels unfair.

As a Hollow Knight fan, I’m really hoping Team Cherry adjusts the double contact damage – it can be pretty harsh! They’ve mentioned in the past that the current system was put in place to make Hornet’s fights fair, considering how quickly she moves and heals. Right now, there’s no official news about changes, but a lot of us are hoping they’ll find a sweet spot. One idea that seems to be gaining traction is removing contact damage when an enemy is stunned – that feels like a good compromise between what Team Cherry originally intended and what players are asking for.
One player suggested that powerful enemies, like bosses, should deal double damage to make them more challenging. However, they strongly believe that regular attacks shouldn’t receive the same damage boost.
So, after all that, I’m really curious to hear what everyone else thinks! Let me know in the comments, or head over to the ComicBook Forum to chat about it. Do you guys think Team Cherry should reconsider these changes?
