For thirty years, Pixar has been a key part of Disney’s success, beginning with the groundbreaking film Toy Story in 1995. Since then, audiences could generally count on Pixar to release a fantastic new animated movie each year – one that truly valued the art of filmmaking and wasn’t just another typical “kids’ movie.” Even when some films, like the Cars series, weren’t critical darlings, Pixar consistently delivered a level of quality that many fans appreciated.
Recently, some people have criticized Pixar, saying their movies aren’t as consistently good as they once were. While films like Soul and Turning Red were praised by critics, others like Lightyear and Elemental led to the feeling that Pixar’s quality has slipped. This idea will be put to the test again with the release of Hoppers, but early signs are positive – the film is receiving incredibly high praise, the best Pixar has seen in the last ten years.
Hoppers Earns Pixar’s Best Reviews Since Toy Story 4
Currently, “Hoppers” has a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 59 reviews. This rating has shifted slightly between 96% and 98% recently. If it stays this high – which would be remarkable considering many more reviews are expected this week – it would be Pixar’s best score in nearly a decade.
Pixar’s new film, Hoppers, is currently receiving very positive reviews, earning a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This ties it with the critically acclaimed Coco from 2017, and puts it just ahead of Toy Story 4 (96%) and both Turning Red and Soul (95%). This success suggests Pixar might be returning to the high quality it was once known for. While Inside Out 2 is also well-received with a 93% rating, Pixar’s films throughout the 2020s haven’t consistently reached the same level as its earlier work. Last year’s Elio, with an 83% rating, was Pixar’s lowest-grossing film since Onward, whose theatrical run was cut short by the pandemic.
As a huge Pixar fan, I’ve been following the reviews for Hoppers, and if it stays at its current 97% on Rotten Tomatoes – or even goes higher! – it’ll put it among the very best Pixar films ever. Right now, only Toy Story and Toy Story 2 have perfect 100% scores. But Hoppers would join an exclusive club with six other films scoring between 97% and 99%, like Finding Nemo (99%), Up (98%), Toy Story 3 and Inside Out (both 98%), The Incredibles and Coco (both 97%). It’s seriously exciting!
The strong positive response to Hoppers suggests Pixar is set for a successful year. With Hoppers debuting this week to enthusiastic reviews, and Toy Story 5 coming this summer, 2026 could be a standout year for the studio. Even though some fans are hesitant about another Toy Story film, the series consistently performs well both critically and at the box office, pointing towards a potentially fantastic year for Pixar.
