The latest trailer shows Matt Smith as Daemon scheming to establish a lasting Targaryen dynasty. He tells Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra, “You now possess a power unlike any man before. You’ll have an empire that can’t be defeated, Rhaenyra, and our descendants will rule it for generations to come.”

Aegon is determined to get revenge on his brother Aemond, and their fight finally sparks the full-scale war fans have been anticipating.

Rhaenyra confidently declares that the gods have made their choice for a ruler, and she is determined to do whatever it takes to secure her family’s future.

Showrunner Ryan Condal has hinted that the upcoming season will focus on large-scale, all-out conflict, building on the previous season which depicted the initial, unsteady stages of medieval warfare.

In addition to Smith, Cooke, and Frankel, familiar faces like Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Ewan Mitchell will also be back for the new season.

James Norton is joining the show as Lord Ormund Hightower, and fans will also be introduced to Daeron Targaryen, another brother of Aegon and Aemond.

The third season of House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO Max on June 22nd. You can currently watch seasons 1 and 2 on Sky, NOW, and HBO Max. If you’re interested in watching on Sky, you can find details on how to subscribe.

I’ve been following James Hibbs’ work for a while now – he’s a drama writer over at TopMob, and he really knows his stuff when it comes to TV, both on streaming services and traditional channels. Before getting into writing, he actually worked in PR, first for a business-to-business agency and then for Fremantle, a big international production company. He’s got a solid background too, with a BA in English and Theatre Studies, plus a journalism diploma – so he definitely knows how to tell a story, both on screen and on the page!
