New Stranger Things Show Already Dethroned On Netflix

Stranger Things‘ return is turned upside down.

Netflix’s Stranger Things is a huge hit, with two of its seasons ranking among the most-watched English-language shows ever on the platform. Though the main series concluded with season 5 in December 2025, plans were quickly made to expand the Stranger Things universe with spinoff shows. The first of these spinoffs recently launched to great success worldwide. But now, shortly after this exciting return, another popular show is gaining attention.

Currently, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is the 8th most popular TV show on Netflix in the United States. Running Point is at the top of the charts. While the Stranger Things spinoff isn’t performing as well as some expected, it’s still more popular than shows like Trust Me: The False Prophet and Million Dollar Secret. Between Running Point and Tales from ’85 you’ll find Unchosen, Hulk Hogan: Real American, Supernova Strikers: Genesis, Beef, Funny AF with Kevin Hart, and This Is a Gardening Show.

Considering the huge success of Stranger Things, it’s surprising that Tales from ’85 hasn’t topped the US Netflix TV chart. Instead, the sports comedy Running Point has taken the lead. However, these shows are quite different. Running Point recently released its second season on April 23rd, bringing back fans of the popular basketball series. While Tales from ’85 is a spin-off of the massively popular Stranger Things, it’s an animated show and currently in its first season.

The fact that Running Point is performing better than Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 on Netflix in the US likely comes down to how well each show has been received. Critics and audiences both seem to enjoy Running Point more: it currently has an 88% critics’ score and a 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Tales from ’85, while getting a respectable 63% from critics, only has a 50% audience score. So, not only are more people watching Running Point, but those who are watching it seem to be enjoying it more than Tales from ’85.

According to ScreenRant reviews, Running Point is performing better than the Stranger Things spin-off. In a review of Running Point’s second season, critic Cher Thompson awarded it a 6 out of 10, highlighting Kate Hudson’s charisma and strong on-screen chemistry as the show’s biggest strengths.

ScreenRant’s review of Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 gave the series a middling score of 5 out of 10. While critic Kara Hedash enjoyed the new action and familiar faces, she noted the show seems to be struggling to find its audience. The performance of Running Point and Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 on Netflix’s charts is still unfolding.
