How Former First Lady Jill Biden Almost Won Heated Rivalry Role

Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have a fan in Jill Biden

The former First Lady is a big fan of Heated Rivalry and its stars, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, so much so that she invested a significant amount of money to participate in the show herself.

At the NYC LGBT Community Center’s annual fundraiser dinner on April 16th, Jill won a live auction with a $35,000 bid. Her prize includes dinner with the cast of the popular hockey series and a small acting role in the show’s next season.

Although a five-figure sum is a lot of money, even experienced collectors were surprised when the bidding quickly went higher. The prize package eventually sold for $125,000 not once, but twice, with two different people willing to pay that amount.

As someone who’s seen a lot of life, and understands the importance of grace under pressure, I can tell you that Jill Biden handled a recent disappointment with incredible poise. Knowing it was all for a wonderful cause, she simply accepted it with a good heart. It’s a reminder that even when things don’t go as planned, keeping the bigger picture in mind is what truly matters.

She posted on X that she wouldn’t be going to the cottage, but she was glad she tried to make plans. She added that it was a great night supporting the LGBT Center of New York, finishing her message with a pink heart emoji.

At the event, Jacob Tierney, the creator of Heated Rivalry and the person who adapted it from Rachel Reid’s books, and his partner Brendan Brady, both received awards.

According to Center CEO Dr. Carla Smith, Tierney and Brady have made significant contributions by featuring complex and well-developed queer characters in leading roles. These characters are portrayed with respect, showing their full range of emotions and experiences. Dr. Smith notes that by giving a platform to LGBTQ+ stories, they’ve brought positive representation and authentic storytelling to a wider audience, ultimately benefiting the community.

The series launched on HBO in November and rapidly gained popularity. Viewers quickly connected with the love story of Shane and Ilya, and also enjoyed the developing romance between Scott Hunter, played by François Arnaud, and Kip Grady, played by Robbie Graham-Kuntz.

Good news for hockey fans – they won’t have to wait much longer to see the show return! The creators are aiming for a premiere in April 2027.

Jacob announced in February that filming for the series will begin in August. He told Gayle King on CBS Mornings that the writing is currently underway and promised fans “more Heated Rivalry” on television as soon as possible.

When Jacob says “as soon as humanly possible,” he’s serious. He told Variety that he dedicates entire days to writing, isolating himself in a room to focus.

He explained that to handle the pressure of following up a successful first season, he’s focused on staying dedicated and true to the original story.

He explained that he recently realized he needed to recapture his initial passion for the material and focus on crafting the best possible version of it, driven by a love for the books themselves.

And that includes keeping “faithful” to Rachel’s books: “I’m not going to bail on that now.”

Though we’re eagerly awaiting next April, there’s still a lot of exciting television to enjoy in the meantime. Keep reading to find out more.
