How Mormon Wives’ Mayci Neeley Navigated Tragic Death of Her Son’s Dad

Before appearing on the show *The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives*, Mayci Neeley had already gone through incredibly challenging times, including the loss of her boyfriend, Arik Mack.

In her recently released memoir, *Told You So*, Hulu star Mayci shared details about the tragic death of her former partner, Arik. He died in a car accident in March 2015 at the age of 19. At the time of the crash, Arik was texting Mayci, who was 14 weeks pregnant with their son, Hudson, and apologizing for infidelity.

In her book, *Told You So*, Mayci remembers the shocking moment her boyfriend, Arik, texted her after he died. The message included an apology, a declaration of his love, and remorse for causing her pain while she was pregnant with their child. The text ended with a single typographical error – the letter ‘J’.

She found out about Arik’s death a few hours later while browsing Instagram. A report from KSL, a local Utah news source, stated that in March 2015, Arik was driving a Honda Element that crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a semi-truck. He died at the scene, according to the highway patrol.

The tragedy was one of the hardest topics for Mayci to write about in her memoir.

She shared with TopMob News that the sadness is still with her, and it’s always been a part of who she is, whether she writes about it or not.

“Every March, which is the month he passed away,” Mayci noted, “there just feels like there’s an extra bit of heaviness and gloom in my life.”

Since Arik’s passing, Hudson has kept Mayci moving forward.

Mayci explained that he’s always been her lifeline, saying she doesn’t believe she’d be where she is today without him. He helped her become more motivated and ambitious.

Once Mayci ended the call, she reached out to Arik’s father, Jeff, who had always been kind and supportive of her and their relationship. As they were talking, Arik sent Mayci an old photo – a selfie they’d taken together in a mirror.

She writes back to Arik, noting she’s confused why he would send this to her.

When Hudson was born, Mayci was getting ready to raise him as a single mother. She later married Jacob Neeley in 2018 and together they had two daughters, Harlow and Charli.

She explained that she hoped her son would be proud of everything she achieved – finishing college, completing her tennis career, and doing it all with him by her side.

She made a point of having him present at her graduation and many of her tennis matches. She wanted him to grow up seeing her succeed and realize that he could achieve anything too, thinking, ‘If my mom can do it, so can I.’
