In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Hoopa, a Psychic/Ghost-type Pokémon, is central to the story in the Mega Dimension DLC and appears as a companion to the character Ansha. Players can also catch their own Hoopa, though it’s only available after completing the main DLC content. Once you do, it’s a strong Pokémon to add to your team.
In the Legends: Z-A DLC, Hoopa helps you access special areas called Hyperspace Wild Zones by letting you feed it donuts. Specifically, Ansha’s Hoopa will open a path to a different version of Lumiose City, but only if you can make donuts that match the ‘star value’ of the rifts you discover there. Making these donuts requires Hyperspace Berries, so gathering a lot of them is important.
How To Find An Alternate Hoopa In The Mega Dimension DLC
Start An Endgame Mission By Baking The Right Item For The Job
You won’t immediately find another Hoopa, but after finishing the main story of the Mega Dimension DLC, a new side quest becomes available by visiting Ansha. If you talk to Ansha at Hotel Z after the story ends, you’ll start the “The Djinn Unbound” side quest, which involves a strange distortion that’s frightening her Hoopa.
Taking on this mission will reward you with the Prison Bottle, a key item needed for Hoopa. The unusual phenomenon in this quest is connected to a rift found in Bleu Sector 6, directly above the Pokémon Center on Bleu Street. This rift appears as a 5-Star distortion with an unknown level, which indicates the type of donut you’ll need.
Okay, so I finally made it to the Blue District with the perfect donut, and Ansha’s Hoopa opened up this crazy portal for me. As soon as I stepped through, BAM! This huge, wild Unbound Hoopa showed up and immediately started attacking. It’s the Hoopa I’ve been searching for, but honestly, it’s not nearly as helpful as Ansha’s Hoopa has been throughout this DLC.
How To Capture Hoopa In Legends: Z-A
Defeat The Unbound Version To Endear It To Your Side
Going into the rift and finding Unbound Hoopa will start a side quest, but it will immediately lead to a difficult battle. You’ll need to defeat the Level 200 Unbound Hoopa, similar to how you’ve battled Rogue Mega Evolutions before. This Legendary Pokémon is very strong, so you might need to try several times and build a powerful team to win.
Once you defeat Unbound Hoopa, you can use the Prison Bottle to contain its power, transforming it into a form similar to Ansha’s Hoopa. After being sealed and calmed down, it will happily join your team. Completing the quest by returning to Ansha will allow both your Hoopa and hers to meet, offering them comfort and resolving their anxieties.
So, in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you can keep Hoopa in its Confined Form by leaving the Prison Bottle on it. But if you want to switch back to Unbound Hoopa, just take the bottle off! Honestly, both forms are super strong, so if you’re a competitive player and you’ve already finished the Mega Dimension DLC, definitely finish this quest – it’s worth it to have both options.
