This Christmas, Magic Light Pictures is turning Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s charming story, The Scarecrows‘ Wedding, into a BBC animated special.
For more than ten years, Julia Donaldson’s popular books – including classics like The Gruffalo and Zog – have been turned into special Christmas Day shows featuring famous actors.
As in previous years, Domhnall Gleeson and Jessie Buckley are again providing the voices for the characters Harry O’Hay and Betty O’Barley.
They’re joined by Rob Brydon as the villainous Reginald Rake and Sophie Okonedo as the narrator.
This charming story follows two scarecrows who find love in a farmer’s field and dream of a perfect wedding. However, their happiness is threatened by Reginald, who tries to sabotage their plans with potentially devastating results.
As a critic, I’m here to give you the inside scoop on how and when you can catch ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’ this Christmas. Consider this your handy guide to make sure you don’t miss it!
How to watch The Scarecrows’ Wedding

The Scarecrows’ Wedding will air on BBC One at 3:10pm on Christmas Day.
And after it’s aired on the BBC, you’ll be able to catch it on BBC iPlayer whenever you desire.
As a big fan of these beautifully animated films, I’m thrilled to say you can stream all the other Magic Light Pictures adaptations on BBC iPlayer right now! It’s perfect for keeping the kids happy during the holidays, honestly – there’s a ton to choose from.
