How Travis Kelce Supported Taylor Swift’s Dad Scott Swift Post Surgery

Taylor Swift’s family is the family that Travis Kelce chose. 

The tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs was present to help with the care of Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, who had a quintuple bypass surgery over the summer. Remarkably, he stayed even when his partner couldn’t.

Trav was spending time with him recently,” Taylor shared on the August 13 episode of New Heights. “He told me, ‘Honestly, if 75% is like this, I’m really worried about what might be coming next.'” (directed to Jason Kelce)

Taylor shared the same sentiment as her boyfriend, expressing that the improvement in the former stockbroker’s recovery was remarkable. She added a personal touch by saying, “My father says, ‘With new arteries, he’s a whole new man.’

Though Taylor wasn’t physically present for her father’s complete recovery after his challenging operation, she stood by his side until he had safely navigated through it.

Things transpired very rapidly, as Taylor explained. He expressed to our family, ‘You’re all swamped; I wouldn’t want you to feel obligated to be here. You two particularly have a lot on your plates. There’s no need for you to take part in this.’

Travis added, “He was being the brave dad, the strong dad.”

But of course, Taylor didn’t listen. 

She said, “I decided I wouldn’t show up there, no doubt about it,” and went on. Later, after waking up from surgery, it was her mom, brother, his best friend, and herself who were there. To everyone’s surprise, he delivered a 15-minute stand-up routine, and he had never been funnier.

After Scott’s hospital stay, Taylor mentioned that she decided to move in with him to provide ongoing care for him.

She remembered it feeling quite contradictory, like a child caring for a parent in many aspects. ‘He used to construct swings, playsets, and cribs for me,’ she said, ‘now I’m the one building him a shower chair, a walker, and his bed. It’s all very strange.’

I was absolutely thrilled when my lucky star finally aligned and Taylor Swift noticed me! You see, back in July 2023 during her Eras Tour stop at Arrowhead Stadium, I shared my heartfelt tale of missed opportunities on the New Heights podcast. I confessed my frustration about not being able to give her a friendship bracelet with my number on it – and lo and behold, it seems like she heard my plea!

As Taylor states, it seems that Travis hadn’t initiated any contact with her team for arranging a potential encounter initially.

As for the friendship bracelet, Taylor said she’s still “never seen the original.”

Travis shared the specific instance when he decided he wanted to court Taylor, expressing this during his podcast by saying, “Had I not attended that concert, been spellbound, captivated, and then left yearning to meet you, I wouldn’t have ended up sharing with everyone how much it hurt me.

The athlete, fascinated by Taylor, exclaimed, “Witnessing your ability to stir up an entire stadium is phenomenal! In a private setting, it’s as if we’ve been friends for ages.

It was a sentiment shared by Taylor, who responded, “I felt the same exact way about you.”

“Whatever Andy Reid says, we’re gonna stand by,” Taylor responded. “That’s what happened.”

It’s known that she’s had a long-standing friendship with the coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, who happens to be Scott Swift – her father’s friend. As a result, Andy has attended her concerts for quite some time.

Taylor shared that her father, who’s renowned for being exceptionally sociable, has always made her feel warm and upbeat whenever they’ve interacted with Andy.

As a die-hard fan, even though I wasn’t fully aware of the specific sports he was playing, there was no mistaking that man was my dad’s buddy, Andy Reid. Now, after learning more about him, I can confidently say that he is an absolute legend, an icon in coaching history.

In the end, Andy spoke highly of Travis, and many members of Taylor’s circle also gave him positive recommendations when he made a move on New Heights.

Taylor reminisced about her cousins exclaiming, ‘He’s simply fantastic, three times over!’ It seemed as if many were murmuring praise about you in her ear, which was rather unusual. People were ready to champion your cause unreservedly.”

The inspiration was about going “behind the curtain” of the Eras Tour.

Taylor explained that the album reflected the personal happenings within her life during the tour, as it was filled with intense, lively, and dynamic events happening behind the scenes.

She explained that the energy on this record originated from a particularly exuberant, unruly, and theatrical period in her life. This exuberance is what shines through on the album.

Travis confessed that he’s listened to all of the songs and referred to them as a dozen standout hits. Taylor pointed out that one significant aspect of Travis is his long-standing friendships, which stretch back to around age 4. Not only does he excel in nurturing these relationships, but he’s incredibly loyal, and his friends reciprocate this loyalty.

Later on, sharing a good time with her friends in the NFL section at Arrowhead Stadium, she expressed, “They’re an incredibly funny and hilarious bunch of individuals.

I was curious, were we discussing ‘green flags’? Well, let me share an experience that showcases one. At her very first game, which happened to be a Bears match, she didn’t need any special treatment or VIP access. She just walked right through the main entrance of the stadium – general admission!

Taylor humorously noted that all his pastimes are the type that would have been popular in the 1700s, as he enjoys activities such as sewing children’s purses and baby blankets, painting, and cooking.

Indeed, she confessed her love for baking changes every half year, and at the time of this recording, it was all about sourdough which has become a major part of her life.

Taylor shared, “I frequently bake bread and often text my buddies asking if they’d like some of mine. Plus, I follow numerous sourdough blogs. It turns out there’s a big group of people just like me who share this passion.

 

Taylor Swift, famously known for her “Blank Space” song, mentioned her passion for baking and revealed she’s been developing a new type of sourdough bread specifically for Jason and Kylie Kelce’s little girls: Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett, and Finnley.

She shared that she’s been perfecting a unique recipe, tailored especially for the girls who adore all things colorful: it’s a Funfetti sourdough bread. This is because their fondness for sprinkles is so great. Whenever they gather together, they add sprinkles to practically everything!

Aside from sharing bread, I formed a connection with Jason’s daughters through our shared love for our cats – Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button.

She disclosed that the situation was truly a formidable test, as once she gathered the children around the cats, her intention was to demonstrate to them that the cats were harmless. A proof more convincing than words, she thought, was to simply offer Benjamin, my rag-doll cat, who allows humans to handle him like a baby.

Additionally, Taylor humorously confessed that the habit has taken on a hint of “the Zodiac Killer,” but assuredly stated she will continue to provide clues as long as fans find them entertaining.

She mentioned that Easter eggs should be something where if you’re a fan and prefer regular musical experiences, you won’t even notice them. Essentially, ‘if you know, you know.’

According to Taylor, the idea of having Travis join her on stage all started out as a “bit.”

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, who had previously collaborated with her on the photoshoot for her reputation album, captured the cover art that symbolized her feelings following a performance on the Eras Tour, as she stepped into a bath at the end of the night.

After everything that happened, you didn’t get to bed until 4 am. But let me tell you, you navigated through a challenging obstacle course during your performance, and not only did you succeed twice, but you managed it tonight as well.

Instead of asking for a photograph capturing her “on-stage persona,” the renowned artist preferred a behind-the-scenes shot because “this album is less about my experiences on stage and more about my off-stage struggles… This, in my view, gives a truer sense of the lyrics’ content.

She simply stated, “I don’t,” emphasizing that whatever information one exposes their mind to, they will absorb. However, anything contributed to the internet, she warned, can have detrimental effects. After spending two decades in the music industry, her emotions are resilient and difficult to affect now.

In reality, Taylor playfully remarked, “Even if something centers around me or includes my name in the title, it doesn’t necessarily make it my concern.

The singer mentioned that she’s been maintaining a balanced approach towards social media, referring to it as “a really healthy relationship with minimal engagement”. She also shared that she often disconnects significantly from the internet.

During the summer of 2025, Taylor stayed with her father after he underwent a quintuple bypass surgery. She praised him as “the sweetest patient anyone could ask for” and mentioned that he has been doing “exceptionally well” post-surgery.

She mentioned that he was funnier than ever before, which is quite surprising since he’s often amusing. Speaking of his behavior after surgery, she shared an interesting observation. He didn’t realize the extent of his blockages and she had to inform him that he underwent a quintuple bypass – five operations in total. This was shocking, as they initially thought there were fewer. However, he nonchalantly commented, “Well, I come from a very competitive family.

Andrea has also been “doing great” after getting a new knee this summer, according to Taylor.

The “Miss Americana” star shared that her parents are among her dearest friends whom she truly cherishes. She considered it a particularly memorable experience to spend so much time with them over the summer, allowing for heartfelt conversations that aren’t usually possible in shorter periods.

She asserted, “It’s not true!” she commented about the gossip that she starred as a costumed bear in the 2025 Adam Sandler comedy alongside Travis. “I feel privileged when people associate me with such a fantastic film, as I was a huge fan of it.

Taylor added, “Whoever did the bear’s acting was exquisite.”

Her favorite moment from watching the guy on the Chiefs actually involved his mom Donna Kelce.

In the suite, after Travis’ victorious AFC Championship win, Taylor reminisced about the scene. Everyone was ecstatic, shouting. Suddenly, his mother announced they were heading to the field. Taylor was taken aback, wondering what she meant by that.

Looking back now, I can’t help but feel grateful that I heeded Donna’s wisdom and got the chance to live an extraordinary moment with Travis. It was like stepping into a dreamworld, truly magical! Granted, it wasn’t something I’d ever experienced so many cameras before, but hey, who wouldn’t want to capture memories of such a special occasion?
