The creator of *Hunter x Hunter* is working to restart the manga after a long break, and recently shared a new drawing of Killua – the first in almost ten years! *Hunter x Hunter* has been a long-running series in *Weekly Shonen Jump* magazine, but its length isn’t due to a high number of chapters. Unfortunately, the series has frequently paused publication over the last twenty years because of the creator, Yoshihiro Togashi’s, health problems, with significant gaps between releases.
Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of the popular manga Yu Yu Hakusho, has often discussed his struggles with back problems and how they affect his ability to create new chapters. Recently, he shared an update on social media, giving fans a first look at the character Killua – who hasn’t appeared in the manga since 2016, and hasn’t played a significant role in the story for even longer.
What Happened to Killua in Hunter x Hunter?

The manga *Hunter x Hunter* has been paused since Chapter 410 was released last December. This isn’t the longest break the series has had – before chapter 400, creator Yoshihiro Togashi took almost five years to produce ten new chapters. While this pace is necessary due to his health, it means fans haven’t seen some of their favorite characters in action for a long time. The current story arc, Succession Contest, has been developing for a while and introduces many new characters.
While Kurapika has been the focus recently, Gon and Killua haven’t had much to do in the story for a while now, especially with the gaps between new chapters. Killua was last seen briefly in a flashback in Chapter 350, which came out in April 2016 – almost a decade ago! His last full appearance was even earlier, in Chapter 339, back in March 2012.
When Is Hunter x Hunter Coming Back From Hiatus?
Yoshiro Togashi, the creator of *Hunter x Hunter*, has been giving fans glimpses of his work process as he prepares new chapters. He previously announced that the series would return in blocks of ten chapters, followed by a break. This means the next return could include chapters 411 to 420, and the publisher, Shueisha, fully supports this pacing.
After *Hunter x Hunter* went on break, Shueisha announced they’re collaborating with the author, Togashi, on a new release plan. It seems this involves releasing batches of ten chapters at a time, as long as Togashi continues to work on the manga. So, fans will need to be patient and wait to see what happens next.
