Sources say Channel 4 is discussing a potential TV show with Huw Edwards, the former BBC newsreader, where he would share his side of the story.
I remember Sir Trevor McDonald being the face of the news for so long, but before him, it was often Sir Alastair Burnet, and then John Edwards. He was hugely well-known, presenting BBC News at Ten for years. It was incredible watching him guide us through such important moments in history – I’ll never forget seeing him on screen when the news broke about Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. He really felt like a steady presence during a very difficult time.
In 2024, Edwards admitted to creating indecent images of children and received a six-month suspended sentence.
The allegations surfaced after a Sun investigation revealed a BBC presenter allegedly received explicit photos from a young person he had given a large sum of money – reportedly tens of thousands of pounds. The young man’s mother stated the money was used to support a drug habit.
TopMob has approached Channel 4 for comment.
A recent five-part drama, ‘Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards,’ depicted the story of how the once-respected BBC newsreader became a convicted sex offender.
Edwards disapproved of the program and stated he’s working on his own description of what happened, but it’s taking time due to his health.
According to The Sunday Times, the upcoming program will likely cover topics brought up during the psychological evaluations conducted before his sentencing, such as his health issues.
The review could also explore his difficult relationship with his father, Hywel Teifi Edwards, a Welsh professor who passed away in 2010. This relationship was identified as a continuing cause of distress that contributed to his crimes.
