I was really impressed by Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and it surprised me in a lot of ways. The game’s performance especially stood out, which is something anyone familiar with Musou or Dynasty Warrior games on Nintendo consoles will appreciate.
Previous Hyrule Warriors games have often had a rough start, with technical problems and slowdowns, especially when many enemies appear at once. However, Age of Imprisonment launched smoothly and avoids these issues.
Slick Performance Was Always The Dream
Age of Imprisonment Gives It To Us
If you’re a fan of the Hyrule Warriors series – and I am – you probably know it’s had a bumpy ride on Nintendo consoles. From the first game on the Wii U, through all the updated versions and sequels, and even with the Fire Emblem Warriors games, the series has often struggled with technical problems.
I was genuinely surprised when I first played Age of Imprisonment on the Switch 2. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo had clearly made a breakthrough – the game ran smoothly, looked great with its lively character animations, and felt full of character.
Recently, Pokémon Legends Z-A also saw a surprising turnaround in perception. While it might not be exactly what every Pokémon fan hoped for, I was impressed by how smoothly it ran and how stable it was while exploring the open world. Whether or not the art style is effective is a matter of opinion, but the game’s performance itself was really well done.
Fans have long hoped for this outcome, and now it’s finally happened.
Hopefully, This Is The New Normal On Switch 2
Apparently, Performance Is Possible
The most important thing to understand is that there’s no going back to lower standards. If the next Pokémon or Hyrule Warriors game isn’t as polished and well-received, fans will likely be very unhappy.
It’s unlikely we’ll see a problem with the next Warriors game on the Switch 2 unless something goes seriously wrong before it’s released. However, with Pokémon, it’s always hard to predict what will happen.
We currently have Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment available. If you were hesitant to try previous games in the series due to performance issues, this could be a great starting point. Plus, it has its own independent story, making it easy for newcomers to pick up and play.
