You may have noticed a bit of a storm gathering around a game called Hytale over the last week or so.
The game is already popular on computers, with reports of up to 3 million people playing at the same time. But will it be released on PlayStation 5?
So, from what I’ve gathered, that’s the idea for Hytale’s release, but it looks like we’re going to be waiting a while still. It’s gonna be a long haul, it seems!
I know the game isn’t quite finished yet because the developers, Hypixel Studios, are still actively updating and polishing it. It feels a lot like playing an early access version, honestly – lots of potential, but still being worked on!
We do plan to release the game on consoles eventually, but it’s a significant undertaking that would require major improvements to our server infrastructure. Right now, our priority is to finish developing a high-quality game.
Hytale has a unique origin story. It began as a popular Minecraft server called Hypixel. The team who ran Hypixel then decided to build their own game similar to Minecraft. In 2020, both the new game and the studio creating it were bought by Riot Games.
Honestly, making Hytale was way harder than anyone expected. After a bunch of delays, they finally announced it was cancelled last June, which was a real bummer.
Fortunately, Simon Collins-Laflamme, who originally created the project, was able to repurchase the intellectual property from Riot Games and brought back several developers to work on it. Now, it’s clear that Hytale is a legitimate and promising game.
Hytale is like a more role-playing game-focused take on the incredibly popular game Minecraft. It’s not surprising that it’s quickly become so popular.
Have you given Hytale a try? Let us know if you’d like to play it on PlayStation 5! Share your thoughts in the comments below.
