Icebreaker Getting Made Into Netflix Series, With Producer Alex Cooper

Another hockey series is skating into view.

Following the success of her novels Off Campus and Heated Rivalry, Hannah Grace’s Icebreaker is being adapted into a Netflix series. The streaming service announced on June 15th that Alex Cooper will produce the show.

Amanda Lasher, the showrunner, and Jade Bartlett, a writer, will be working with Bradley Cooper and his husband Matt Kaplan’s production company, Unwell Productions, to create a series based on the popular bestselling book that’s gained traction on BookTok.

The story centers around Anastasia Allen, a figure skater, and Nate Hawkins, a hockey player, who find a connection as they share the same ice rink.

On June 15th, Cooper hinted at some big news on her Instagram Story, posting a picture of her book with the message, “BookTok fans, I have something exciting to share!”

Shortly after, the host of Call Her Daddy announced she would also be a producer on her Instagram Story, excitedly writing, “SCREAMING.”

Lisa Lasher, known for producing shows like Gossip Girl and Togetherness, shared her enthusiasm about adapting the popular book series—including its follow-up books, Wildfire and Daydream—for television.

Lasher, who is also writing the series, said she’s loved young adult romance since middle school – remembering secretly reading Judy Blume behind her textbooks. She expressed excitement about adapting Hannah Grace’s popular novel Icebreaker for Netflix, calling it a joyful collaboration with Jade and the team at Unwell.

Jade Bartlett, the director and writer of Miller’s Girl – which featured Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman – recently hinted at what viewers can expect from her next project.

Barlett shared that working on the Icebreaker series based on Hannah Grace’s world has been a wonderful experience. They praised the characters as being ambitious, talented, and attractive, but emphasized their kindness and compassion as the most appealing aspect of the story. Barlett expressed excitement about adapting this beloved book for screen with Unwell and Netflix, describing the process as incredibly fun.

Hannah Grace, the author of Icebreaker (published in 2022), shared her enthusiasm about the book being adapted for the screen on Instagram June 15th, calling herself “truly the luckiest girl in the world.”

Knowing what her readers want – they’ve often mentioned actors like Madelyn Cline and Jacob Elordi in fan-made videos and images as dream cast members – the author updated fans on the current status of casting for the series.

Grace said there’s no news about who will be in the show yet, but she promised to share updates as soon as she can. She also clarified that if you haven’t heard something directly from her or Netflix/Unwell, it’s probably just a rumor.

We don’t have a confirmed release date just yet, but stay tuned for information on other upcoming series!
