Even though summer hasn’t arrived, there’s exciting news for the holidays! Get ready for some great new shows and movies to enjoy once the weather turns cold.
The BBC and Magic Light Pictures are creating a new animated special based on ‘The Baddies’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, continuing their tradition of beloved festive storytelling which has delighted audiences for over ten years.
I’m so thrilled to hear Rob Brydon is coming back! And it gets even better – Alison Steadman and Sheridan Smith from Gavin & Stacey are joining him, along with some fantastic new faces like Hammed Animashaun, Robyn Cara, and Francesca Mills. It’s shaping up to be amazing!
I’m completely hooked on ‘The Baddies’! It follows this hilarious group of supervillains – there’s Animashaun as a troll, Rob Brydon playing a ghost, and Alison Steadman is brilliant as a witch. What I love most is they revel in being bad, constantly showing off just how awful they are! It’s fantastic.
When a new neighbor, a girl named Robyn Cara who carries a spotted blue handkerchief, moves into a nearby cottage, the three friends start planning pranks. A mouse named Francesca Mills challenges them to a competition: whoever can steal the handkerchief wins. But they quickly realize this little girl might be more than they bargained for…

Ultimately, The Baddies is a story of courage, kindness and the power of standing up to bullies.
As a huge fan of a good story, I loved hearing about how ‘The Baddies’ came to be. The writer, Donaldson, said it was a blast creating those wonderfully mischievous characters and imagining what would happen when someone finally dared to challenge them. And Magic Light really nailed the adaptation – the voice cast perfectly captured the story’s funny, silly, and slightly spooky vibe. It’s a fantastic production!
Narrator David Smith shared his excitement about working on ‘The Baddies’ film, saying he’s a long-time fan of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s work. He described the film as funny, a little spooky, and heartwarming, praising its beautiful animation. Smith believes families will really enjoy watching the mischievous characters this Christmas.

The Baddies will air over the Christmas period on the BBC.
