Though the show The Boys has finished its run, the finale suggests there could be more to come. The fifth and final season ended with a dramatic showdown: Homelander was killed by Billy Butcher, who was then killed by Hughie Campbell. It was a satisfying, though sad, ending for the Prime Video superhero series, bringing closure to most of the characters’ stories. However, given the current trend for expanding TV franchises, this may not be the last we see of this world.
Several spin-off shows based on The Boys are in the works. Vought Rising is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video in 2027, and a version set in Mexico, The Boys: Mexico, is currently being developed. There’s also talk of potentially continuing the story beyond the existing seasons, maybe with a sixth season or another sequel series. It’s definitely a possibility, considering some members of The Boys are still alive, Ryan is still around and could still develop powers, and Vought remains active in the superhero world. While anything could happen, showrunner Eric Kripke has already ruled out one idea: Hughie and Starlight having a superpowered child. He shared this in an interview with Screen Rant.
Look, what really struck me here is the idea that Ryan is uniquely gifted – a natural superhero, unlike everyone else who needs some kind of artificial boost. It feels like the story is hinting they’ve finally understood the dangers of creating heroes, and they’re determined to let little Robin grow up as a normal kid. It’s a surprisingly grounded sentiment for this world, and I really hope they follow through with it.
The Boys Shouldn’t Bring Back Hughie, Starlight, Or Robin
Hughie and Annie’s ending felt complete and gave them a satisfying conclusion, and it probably should stay that way. They’ve experienced so much already, and it’s hard to imagine a compelling reason to revisit their story in the show – plus, it doesn’t seem like the creator is planning to.
Making Robin a Supe – even though they could still potentially take Compound V – wouldn’t be a good idea. It would feel contrived and rely too heavily on a cliché that The Boys usually mocks, rather than embraces. The show has already explored the idea of superpowered children, so there’s no need to revisit it with Robin; they don’t need to be more powerful in this world.
There’s a good chance the story could continue beyond Season 5 of The Boys. Soldier Boy didn’t appear in the finale, and it seems likely he’ll return somehow, possibly in the upcoming Vought Rising. While Vought Rising is set in the 1950s as a prequel, it’s possible it could also include scenes happening after Season 5. The show also hinted that Stormfront might still be alive, so she could appear as well.
With Stan Edgar back in charge at Vought, we can expect plenty of continued activity from Supes, and that opens the door for new villains to appear now that Homelander’s power dynamic has shifted. There’s a good chance this could lead to a continuation of the story started in Gen V, especially considering the show’s cancellation. Characters like Marie Moreau and Jordan Li deserve a satisfying conclusion, but ideally, any new story will respect the established endings for the main characters of The Boys – we don’t need to revisit their arcs.
All five seasons of The Boysare now streaming on Prime Video.
