It appears that the fourth season of Ted Lasso is on its way, but it seems not all members of AFC Richmond will be present. When Apple TV+ announced Season 4 filming, they unveiled the main cast, which consisted of both returning and new actors. However, some crucial characters such as Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed, and others were absent from this list. The omission of Brett Goldstein (who plays Jamie Tartt) left me feeling a bit disappointed. Yet, he has been posting about production, and his mysterious response gives me hope, much like Ted would say, “I believe.
Shortly after whispers started circulating about potential plotlines for Season 4 of Ted Lasso, and speculations about which actors could return, it was announced that Phil Dunster might not return to portray Jamie because of scheduling conflicts.
Then, when we learned that production for the new season had begun, it was confirmed that Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Jeremy Swift, Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt would be the OG Ted Lasso cast members returning. Dunster wasn’t mentioned. However, he did post the following reaction to the news on his Instagram story:

presently, that sidelong glance might convey a variety of messages. It could indicate pure excitement about the new dish they’re preparing. Nevertheless, to my perspective, it appears rather mysterious. To be honest, it instantly sparked curiosity within me regarding whether Dunster will return again.
During his time on the show, Jamie Tartt became a beloved character who often provided some of Ted Lasso’s most humorous moments. It would certainly be disappointing if he didn’t reappear. Yet, the actor’s recent playful Instagram post with a sidelong glance gives me the feeling that perhaps he has inside knowledge that we don’t, and there might be a chance for him to make a brief appearance or something similar in the future.

To clarify, it seems that Dunster won’t be making a reappearance in the storyline, which I can understand given the focus on Richmond’s women’s team this season. Similarly, Nick Mohammed has expressed some uncertainty about whether his character Nate will return, acknowledging that this shift in focus is intentional and well-justified.
Indeed, I understand your concern about avoiding a cluttered feel for the new show. It’s a thoughtful approach, one I wholeheartedly support.
Among all characters, Jamie stands out as one of my favorites, significantly contributing to the charm of “Ted Lasso.” Thus, I’m hoping that my interpretation is correct and perhaps actor Phil Dunster might grace us with his presence again on the screen for a friendly hello.

To be honest, I believe it’s important for us to recall the “lesson from Season 3,” which can be simply put as “poop-eh.” Since this is all speculation, it might be best to keep an open mind and not set expectations too high. At the same time, I don’t want to lose hope entirely.
Until the final episode of “Ted Lasso” Season 4 is aired on Apple TV+, having watched all the episodes currently being filmed, I’ll keep hoping that perhaps Jamie Tartt might reappear.
