Incredible Street Fighter Art Collection Goes Public For the First Time in 35 Years

Street Fighter is a legendary fighting game, and a live-action movie based on the game is coming soon. The characters we know and love all began as video game creations, and now, for the first time in 35 years, original artwork from the game’s history is being released for fans to own.

Art Whirled is showcasing a rare collection of original artwork from the early Street Fighter games, and fans will love recognizing the iconic images. Created by artist Mick McGinty, the collection includes sketches and paintings of classic artwork like the covers for Street Fighter II Championship Edition, Street Fighter II Turbo, and the original Street Fighter II, as well as character designs. You can view the full collection here.

This is a Rare Chance To Own a Piece of Street Fighter History

Opportunities to own genuine pieces of Street Fighter history are rare, particularly when it involves such well-known artwork. Most fans recognize the iconic image of M. Bison kicking Guile with a jet in the background – it was the cover art for Street Fighter II Championship Edition on the Sega Genesis. Similarly, the battle between E. Honda and Sagat is instantly recognizable as the cover of Street Fighter II Turbo for the Super Nintendo.

You probably haven’t seen the original sketches for these game covers. For example, there’s an unused cover for Street Fighter II Turbo where Sagat defeats E. Honda, instead of the other way around. There’s also a unique artwork showing Chun-Li powerfully kicking Vega in the face, breaking his mask in half.

As a big fan of Street Fighter, I was really excited to see detailed looks at the characters – Ken, Sagat, Zangief, Fei Long, E. Honda, Balrog, M. Bison, Vega, Dhalsim, and Blanka all got profiles. And if you’re like me and love a really in-depth character study, there are full portraits available for Vega, Dhalsim, and Sagat, which is a nice bonus!

As a longtime fan and critic, I’ve always been fascinated by the making of a true gaming icon. If you’re interested in diving deep into the world of Street Fighter, I highly recommend checking out Undisputed Street Fighter: The Art and Innovation Behind the Game-Changing Series. It’s packed with over 70 interviews with the people who actually made the game, and it really shows you how the series grew and changed over the years. It’s a fantastic look behind the scenes for anyone who loves the franchise.

As a fan, I honestly think you can’t go wrong with any way you choose to experience this! Whether you’re diving into the story through the book, grabbing a piece of the history with McGinty’s amazing art, or seeing it all unfold on the big screen for the first time, it’s all fantastic.
