The world has lost a bright star.
Zuza Beine, a 14-year-old influencer who bravely shared her fight with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), has passed away.
Zuza passed away yesterday morning, her family announced in a heartfelt Instagram post featuring a photo of her smiling at the beach. Despite battling cancer for eleven of her fourteen years, she lived a full and grateful life, and her impact on those who knew her will be lasting, even in her passing.
We weren’t surprised that her final video focused on what she appreciated in life – it really showed how much beauty and hardship she experienced. Above all, she wished she could have been a typical, healthy child. However, what made her life so special was her ability to embrace life to the fullest, even while battling a serious illness.
Zuza, diagnosed with the illness when she was three years old, recently shared a post highlighting the good things in her life.
In an Instagram video posted on September 20th, Zuza explained that she was most moved by the simple, everyday moments people often overlook. She illustrated this with a collection of photos showing her enjoying meals, spending time with loved ones, and experimenting with different looks.
Just a few days before, Zuza, who had been openly sharing how she was doing with her health, let her followers know she hadn’t been feeling well, both physically and emotionally.
Oh my god, she just *shared* this on Instagram, and it broke my heart. She said she’s been in so much pain lately, like, constantly. She actually said she’s always on pain meds because her body just *aches* so badly. It’s awful to see her like this, honestly. I just want her to feel better!
Zuza explained she spent two days in the hospital getting pain medication through an IV, but was then able to recover at home. Despite dealing with a lot of pain, she wanted to address comments from people who felt her online content focused too much on her cancer.
She explained that she lives with constant, daily pain, and that’s just a reality of her life. She wants to be honest with people about what it’s really like, and it’s not always easy or glamorous.
Zuza ended her message with optimism that her followers would see more of her soon.
She said she was hoping to recover quickly and apologized for any inconsistencies, adding that she loved them all very much.
Before she passed away, Zuza explained why she felt it was crucial to use her voice to highlight the issue of childhood cancer.
In a 2023 interview with Milwaukee’s TMJ 4, Zuza explained she started her Instagram account to connect with others and document her experiences. She also hoped to support other young people facing similar challenges.
