Invincible Season 5: Everything We Know After That Huge Cliffhanger Ending

With the end of Invincible season 4 and its shocking cliffhanger, fans are eager to know when season 5 will arrive. Despite the destruction of Viltrum and the Viltrumites being weakened, the Invincible comic book series still has many stories left to tell. The Prime Video animated show has plenty of material to adapt, and season 5 promises to feature some of the most exciting and unexpected events from the comics.

The fourth season of Invincible concluded with Mark and Nolan returning to Earth, anticipating the arrival of the escaping Viltrumites. Surprisingly, the Viltrumites are nowhere to be found. Mark becomes increasingly anxious, while Nolan takes Debbie and goes back to Talescria to be with Oliver as he recovers. Eventually, Mark discovers the Viltrumites have been hiding amongst humans, secretly increasing their numbers by having children with them. Separately, Thaedus secretly gives Allen a fully developed version of the Scourge Virus, which poses a huge threat – it could unintentionally destroy all of humanity if unleashed.

When Will Invincible Season 5 Release?

There’s no confirmed release date yet for Invincible season 5, leaving fans waiting to find out when new episodes will arrive. While we likely won’t have an official date until later this year – as Prime Video usually announces details for the next season shortly after one finishes airing – the show has been renewed for a fifth season, so more episodes are definitely on the way.

Forbes reports that the fifth season of Invincible is likely to come out in Spring 2027. After a two-year wait between seasons one and two, the show has been releasing new seasons each spring – Part 2 of season 2 in 2024, season 3 in 2025, and season 4 in 2026. The creators previously stated they planned for yearly releases after the initial delay, and a Spring 2027 launch for season 5 would fit that schedule.

Robert Kirkman hasn’t officially announced a release date for season 5, but he suggested it could arrive around May or January. He admitted they’re still figuring it out, but aim to release it within that general timeframe. Kirkman also revealed that all the voice work was completed a long time ago, and they were actually working on season 5 even while promoting season 2, suggesting the team is well ahead of schedule.

How Invincible Season 4’s Ending Sets up Next Season

The end of Invincible season 4 introduces major plotlines that will likely continue in season 5. The central conflict revolves around Mark’s choice to allow the Viltrumites to remain on Earth. Although Thragg has warned he’ll destroy the planet if Mark interferes, Mark is worried about the Viltrumites increasing their numbers. Season 5 will focus on Mark figuring out how to handle this difficult situation.

Plus, at the end of season 4, Cecil stopped looking for Robot and Monster Girl, leaving them stuck in the Flaxan dimension. However, they’re likely to reappear, and season 5 might focus on their efforts to return home.

Things are really tough between Mark and me right now. I told him about the abortion, and he’s been carrying a lot of guilt since he had to go on that mission. I’ve tried to tell him we’ll be okay, but I can tell he’s starting to wonder if we can actually make things work with both of our superhero lives getting in the way. It’s scary, and I’m not sure what the future holds for us.

When the story returns to Earth, Allen will face a difficult choice: use a dangerous virus that could destroy the Viltrumites, but also put all of humanity at risk. Meanwhile, Nolan and Debbie will likely be at the Coalition headquarters, staying with Oliver as he recovers from his battle with Thragg.

What Happens in Invincible Season 5 (According to the Comics)

Season 5 of Invincible is likely to explore a wider range of storylines compared to season 4, which was largely centered around the conflict with the Viltrumites. (Warning: spoilers ahead for those who read the Invincible comic books.)

The ongoing conflict between Mark and Dinosaurus is expected to be a major focus of season 5, with the villain from last season playing an even larger role. We’ll likely also see the return of Powerplex, who will become Mark’s primary enemy on Earth.

Development will continue on the revived villains from the Invincible War, and Cecil wants to keep this hidden from Mark. We might also see another Flaxan invasion and the return of Monster Girl and Robot, potentially launching a major new storyline in Invincible that could dramatically alter the entire series.
