Is Off Campus Returning for Season 2? Here’s the Truth

Get ready to lace up those ice skates once again.

Following the success of season one, where Hannah Wells (played by Ella Bright) and Garrett Graham (played by Belmont Cameli) sparked romance at Briar University’s hockey rink in Off Campus, Prime Video has renewed the series for a second season.

After the announcement in February that the show based on Elle Kennedy’s books would be renewed for another season—well before its May 13th premiere—creator Louisa Levy gave fans an update on how filming is going.

In a recent interview with Variety published on May 13th, she revealed that all eight scripts have been completed and that the upcoming season has a compelling direction. While she remained tight-lipped about specifics, she believes fans of the original books will be thrilled with what’s in store.

The first season of the show, based on the novel The Deal, centers on Hannah and Garrett, who start a fake relationship that unexpectedly becomes real. The upcoming second season will introduce new romantic pairings.

While the show’s creator isn’t sharing everything yet, we’ve learned a few things. For example, India Fowler will play Grace Ivers, who is the love interest of Garrett’s best friend, John Logan (played by Antonio Cipriano), in the second book, The Mistake.

And Elle couldn’t be more thrilled about the casting.

I recently watched Antonio and India – who will play Grace – do a chemistry test, and they had amazing connection on screen,” she shared with TopMob News before the show launched. “That’s what I’m most looking forward to viewers seeing.

It’s especially thrilling since Grace is one of the author’s favorite characters.

She tends to talk a lot when she’s anxious and often jumps between topics,” she explained. “I can’t wait to see Grace come to life on screen. I think a lot of people will connect with her because she’s naturally clumsy and a bit awkward. While I was writing the book, there were times I actually felt embarrassed for her – I’d think, ‘Oh, Grace, please stop!’ – and I’m really looking forward to seeing that play out.

Similar to the show Bridgerton, this hockey romance series weaves together different stories from the books. While Allie Hayes (Mika Abdalla) and Dean DiLaurentis (Stephen Kayln) start a friends-with-benefits arrangement in the first season, their love story actually comes from the third book, The Score.

Elle, who also produces the show, welcomes the writers’ decisions to make changes from the original books when the story calls for it.

I try to stay flexible with these kinds of decisions,” she said. “I wasn’t focused on needing any particular element; I just wanted any changes we made to fit the overall feeling of the show.

She felt the show really nailed the atmosphere and core elements of Briar U.

While everyone is eagerly awaiting news about the second season of Off Campus, here are some other great TV shows that were originally books to enjoy in the meantime.

The 2024 Emmy Awards nominated the Apple TV+ miniseries Lessons in Chemistry ten times. Brie Larson, Lewis Pullman, Aja Naomi King, and Millicent Shelton were among those nominated for their performances. Based on Bonnie Garmus’s 2022 novel of the same name, the series—which is also up for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series—and the book both tell the story of Elizabeth Zott (Larson), a chemist who overcomes personal struggles and sexism to become a popular cooking show host in 1960s Southern California.

The 2024 television series Shōgun made history as the first Japanese-language show to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, receiving a total of 25 Emmy nominations. Based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, the FX show tells the story of Japan in the 1600s, at the start of the Edo period. This isn’t the first time Clavell’s work has been adapted; previously, it was a 1980 miniseries, as well as a stage musical and several video games.

Since it premiered in 2019, The Morning Show has been a major hit on streaming, driven by fantastic performances from its lead actors – Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Billy Crudup – all of whom have received Emmy nominations for their work on the Apple TV+ series. Inspired by Brian Stelter’s 2013 book, Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, the show offers a glimpse behind the scenes of morning television and has earned a total of 27 Emmy nominations, including a win for Billy Crudup in 2020 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The new Netflix miniseries Ripley, starring Andrew Scott, is based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Set in 1960s New York, the show follows Tom Ripley, a con artist played by Scott, who is paid by a rich businessman to convince his son, Dickie (Johnny Flynn), to come home from Europe. The 2024 series, which also features Dakota Fanning, was nominated for 13 Emmy Awards, including recognition for Scott as Lead Actor and Fanning as Supporting Actress.

Casey McQuiston’s popular 2019 novel, Red, White & Royal Blue, was adapted into a successful movie on Amazon Prime in 2023. The film tells the story of a romance between the son of the U.S. President (played by Taylor Zakhar Perez) and a Prince of England (played by Nicholas Galitzine), and it received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie in 2024.

The second installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans (2024), dramatizes the downfall of Truman Capote’s friendships with a group of prominent New York socialites—known as his “Swans.” Capote alienated these women after publishing a revealing article in Esquire magazine in 1975, which thinly disguised details about their lives. The FX show, based on Laurence Leamer’s 2021 book Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era, featured a star-studded cast including Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, Calista Flockhart, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, and the late Treat Williams. In 2024, the season received 10 Emmy nominations, recognizing performances by Tom Hollander, Naomi Watts, Treat Williams, and Diane Lane.

The 2023 miniseries Fellow Travelers is based on Thomas Mallon’s 2008 novel of the same name. It follows the decades-long, complex relationship between Hawkins Fuller (Matt Bomer) and Timothy Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey), starting in the 1950s and continuing through the 1980s. Both Bomer and Bailey were nominated for Emmy Awards in 2024 for their performances: Bomer for Outstanding Lead Actor and Bailey for Outstanding Supporting Actor, both in a limited or anthology series.

At the end of 2020, Netflix’s series Bridgerton, based on the romance novels by Julia Quinn, became a huge cultural hit. Its popularity stemmed from a diverse cast, beautiful music, and captivating storylines. The show was also well-received by critics, even earning a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2021 Emmy Awards.

Based on the bestselling books by George R.R. Martin, this drama is known for its large-scale battles and captivating love stories. The TV show became a global phenomenon, attracting viewers even among those who hadn’t read the books. Over eight seasons, the HBO series won a record-breaking 58 Emmy Awards. Though the final season’s ending proved divisive and diverged from Martin’s original plan, the show is widely considered one of the greatest ever made.

HBO’s popular series, based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, attracted a stellar cast including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern, who played the five women at the center of a captivating murder mystery. The first season was as gripping as the book and won eight Primetime Emmy Awards. It was so successful that Meryl Streep joined the cast for season two, even though there wasn’t a novel to base it on. While not quite as critically acclaimed as the first season, the second season still earned Emmy nominations for supporting actresses Meryl Streep and Laura Dern.

The Netflix series 3 Body Problem received six Emmy nominations in 2024, including a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Set in the U.K. and China, the show centers around scientists investigating an extraterrestrial mystery and a potential planetary crisis. It’s adapted from the book series Remembrance of Earth’s Past by Liu Cixin, which began in 2006 with The Three-Body Problem. Cixin continued the series with The Dark Forest in 2008 and Death’s End in 2010.

The British spy series Slow Horses began streaming on Apple TV+ in 2022, but it was the show’s third season that really caught the attention of Emmy voters in 2024, earning nine nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series. Stars Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden also received nominations for Lead Actor and Supporting Actor, respectively. The series is adapted from the Slough House novels by Mick Herron, beginning with Slow Horses which was first published in 2010. There are now eight books in the series, with the latest, Bad Actors, released in 2023.

The new Apple TV+ comedy series Palm Royale received three Emmy nominations in 2024, including Outstanding Comedy Series, and acting nods for Kristen Wiig and Carol Burnett. While the show is inspired by Juliet McDaniel’s 2018 book Mr. & Mrs. American Pie, it takes significant liberties with the original story. Palm Royale is set in the late 1960s and follows Maxine Simmons, a former beauty queen played by Wiig, as she tries to enter the exclusive world of Palm Beach high society. In contrast, the book portrays Maxine being ostracized to Scottsdale, Arizona, after a public outburst following her husband’s confession of an affair.

Lily Gladstone received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in 2024 for her role in the Hulu miniseries Under The Bridge. The series is based on Rebecca Godfrey’s 2005 true crime book of the same title and tells the story of the 1997 murder of 14-year-old Reena Virk by a group of eight classmates in Saanich, British Columbia, Canada.

The 2024 miniseries The Sympathizer is a darkly comedic historical drama adapted from Viet Thanh Nguyen’s 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Set near the end of the Vietnam War, the HBO series follows a Vietnamese spy who escapes to the U.S. as a refugee. While in America, he continues to send information back to the Viet Cong, struggling with divided loyalties. The show won an Emmy in 2024 for Outstanding Supporting Actor, with Robert Downey Jr. receiving the award for his performance in five different roles.

I first discovered The Handmaid’s Tale when it premiered on Hulu back in 2017, and I was immediately hooked. It’s based on Margaret Atwood’s incredible 1985 novel, set in the terrifying world of Gilead after a devastating American Civil War. While the show has definitely expanded beyond the book now, continuing the story of June Osborne (played brilliantly by Elisabeth Moss) and her fight for freedom, it still holds that same powerful impact. It’s been amazing to watch it receive the recognition it deserves, like winning the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series during its first season.

The acclaimed mini-series Roots began as a 1976 novel by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alex Haley. The following year, the Roots mini-series, featuring LeVar Burton, debuted on ABC and quickly became a major cultural event, earning nine Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award. The finale was incredibly popular, remaining one of the most-watched series finales in U.S. television history. In 2016, a new version of Roots, starring Malachi Kirby and Anika Noni Rose, was released.

I was completely hooked on this show! It’s set in a small Louisiana town and features the most fascinating characters – a mind-reading waitress, vampires with charming Southern drawls, and so much more. It stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, who actually fell in love while filming! The series is based on Charlaine Harris’s The Southern Vampire Mysteries books. Though it sadly ended after seven seasons in 2014, I, like many fans, will always appreciate it – and let’s be honest, we were all grateful for the sight of Alexander Skarsgård and Joe Manganiello! It was truly a special show.

This British series is a contemporary reimagining of the classic detective stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, it became incredibly popular both in the U.K. and internationally, even winning an Emmy Award for Best Television Film in 2016 in the U.S.

This thrilling series, inspired by the historical fiction novels of Diana Gabaldon, features time travel, a fight against the established order, and a complicated romance. Caitriona Balfe stars as a nurse who unexpectedly journeys to the past and finds herself torn between her husband and a passionate Scottish warrior, played by Sam Heughan.

Oh my god, The Undoing! I was SO hooked. It’s based on this amazing book, You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz, and of course, it stars Nicole Kidman! She’s just perfect as Grace Fraser, this therapist whose world completely falls apart. Seriously, her husband, Jonathan – played by the always charming Hugh Grant – gets accused of murder! The victim, Elena Alves, portrayed by Matilda De Angelis, is just…everything unravels from there. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Although the series finale sparked mixed reactions, viewers universally praised Nicole Kidman’s stunning outfits throughout the show.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen a lot of shows, and Dexter is one that really stuck with me. It centers around Dexter Morgan, played brilliantly by Michael C. Hall, who leads a double life – he’s a blood spatter analyst by day, and, well, a serial killer by night! The show actually started as a series of books by Jeff Lindsay, and over its eight seasons on Showtime, it built up this incredible, devoted fanbase. It was also a critical darling, racking up 23 Emmy nominations! But honestly? That final episode… let’s just say endings are hard, and that one was particularly divisive.

As a lifestyle expert, I remember when everyone was buzzing about Dexter! The team decided to revisit his story in 2021 with a limited series called Dexter: New Blood, giving us a second chance to see how things would unfold for this complex character.

The popular Netflix series Orange is the New Black quickly became a hit, inspired by Piper Kerman’s memoir about her time in a women’s prison. Viewers connected with the show’s blend of witty humor and emotional stories, and especially with its memorable female characters like Suzanne (“Crazy Eyes,” played by Uzo Aduba), Sophia (Laverne Cox), Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning), and Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley). The show concluded after seven seasons in 2019, leaving Litchfield Penitentiary and its inmates behind.

Before the popular TV series, the story of Friday Night Lights was first a movie starring Billy Bob Thornton. However, it was the 2006 TV adaptation, based on H.G. Bissinger’s book Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, that really captured audiences – even those who weren’t football fans. The series starred Kyle Chandler, along with Connie Britton, Minka Kelly, Scott Porter, Michael B. Jordan, and Taylor Kitsch as the iconic Tim Riggins. Now, let’s hear you: “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts…”

Fans of Liane Moriarty have another show to enjoy! In 2021, Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley teamed up again to adapt Moriarty’s 2018 novel, Nine Perfect Strangers. The series, which premiered on Hulu, centers around Masha Dmitrichenko (played by Kidman), a wellness expert who attempts to help nine individuals – including Frances (Melissa McCarthy), Lars (Luke Evans), Tony (Bobby Cannavale), Carmel (Regina Hall), Napoleon (Michael Shannon), Jessica (Samara Weaving), Ben (Melvin Gregg), Heather (Asher Keddie), and Zoe (Grace Van Patten) – transform their lives.

Based on the books by Cecily von Ziegesar, who grew up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, this show became famous for giving viewers a peek into the hidden world of wealthy New York teenagers. Whether you related more to Blair (Leighton Meester) or Serena (Blake Lively), it’s hard to forget the stylish cast and their glamorous lives over the show’s six seasons on The CW.

Sara Shepard’s popular book series became a hugely addictive TV show for many viewers. The show starred Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson, and Troian Bellisario, and consistently kept audiences guessing. After seven seasons on Freeform, Pretty Little Liars (PLL) attempted to resolve all the mysteries for its devoted fans as the series concluded. Whether those resolutions were satisfying is a different matter.

The Syfy series The Magicians brings the beloved books by Lev Grossman to life, showing what it’s like to be a student at the magical Brakebills University. These characters deal with all the usual struggles of college – tricky relationships, addiction – but with the added pressure of learning magic. As if college wasn’t hard enough! Over five seasons, the stakes got incredibly high, often requiring the characters to save the entire multiverse or even magic itself. (It was a lot!) But one thing remained consistent: each season featured a fantastic musical episode.

The popular CW series owed a lot of its success to its attractive cast, including Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, and Ian Somerhalder. The show, which ran for eight seasons and concluded in 2017, brought the characters from L.J. Smith’s books to life for fans.
