Original star David James Elliott talks a potential return to his iconic role in NCIS.
In conversation with someone, Elliott shared his thoughts about possibly reprising his character Harmon Rabb Jr. on the TV series NCIS again. This idea came up after he had previously appeared in a three-episode stint for NCIS: Los Angeles. “I agreed to it,” Elliott said, “mainly because of R. Scott Gemmill, who wrote for the first two seasons of JAG on that show and then left to run ER and later NCIS: LA. He’s still a good friend of mine.
During my conversation with Gemmill, Elliott mentioned, he remembered, I proposed a concept and he found it appealing. Our discussion revolved around the possibility of developing or expanding upon the Harm character, and then he suggested, ‘Why don’t we do this instead?’ My response was positive, and I was delighted. Working with him is enjoyable. To be honest, I’m not acquainted with anyone from NCIS, but if they approached me, I would certainly think about it. So, who knows?
Since its debut in 1995, this popular TV show originally aired on NBC but later shifted to CBS after its first season. It centered around the judge advocates – essentially military lawyers – from the Department of the Navy’s Office of the Judge Advocate General. These characters were involved in both prosecuting and defending various clients in numerous investigations. The series initially took place in Washington, D.C., but later moved to Falls Church, Virginia. Many episodes mirrored real-life events, much like other successful shows such as Law & Order.
JAG’s Decades-Long Television Legacy – Explained

During the eighth season of JAG, three main cast members from NCIS made their first appearances in their respective roles within their franchise. The episode introduced characters like Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon), Anthony DiNozzo (portrayed by Michael Weatherly), and Abby Sciuto (depicted by Pauley Perrette). These characters helped solidify NCIS’s impact on pop culture. Since then, NCIS has continued to air, amassing 487 episodes so far, along with six spin-off series of its own. This includes bringing back Michael Weatherly’s DiNozzo and Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David.
