Guy Ritchie is assembling his most dynamic trio yet with In the Grey.
A new action thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, and Eiza González is about to be released. The movie follows the trio as they attempt a seemingly impossible heist: stealing a billion dollars from a ruthless dictator. It’s been a long road for the film, which was shot three years ago but faced several delays before finally getting a release date.
Black Bear has released the first trailer for In the Grey, promising intense action and a strong working relationship between three main characters. The trailer opens with Sophia (González) attempting to negotiate a deal, while Sid (Cavill) and Bronco (Gyllenhaal) seem to be keeping to themselves. But when a security guard appears, Bronco faces a dangerous choice: wait at the door, or face potentially deadly consequences.
We hear from Sophia, who explains that the villain, Manny Salazaar, has stolen a billion dollars. She tells Rosamund Pike’s character that she can get the money back. Realizing this is a huge amount – she calls it needing “insurance” – Sophia arranges for Bronco and Sid to be released from prison so they can investigate and recover the stolen funds in their own way.
The new trailer features Bronco and Sid in high-octane action, taking down security and even blasting a helicopter with a bazooka. Their mission won’t be easy, though – Salazar controls the police and has a private army stationed on his island. Sophia explains their approach as operating in a morally ambiguous space, blurring the lines between right and wrong. Watch the thrilling trailer below!
The release of the first trailer is noteworthy, considering the difficult path to completion for In the Grey. Originally planned for release in early January 2025, the film faced setbacks in post-production. This led Lionsgate to drop U.S. distribution rights, which were then picked up by Black Bear. The release date was initially moved to January 2026, but faced further delays before finally being set for May 2026.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting this new movie, which director Guy Ritchie considers his best cast yet. Henry Cavill and Elodie González are working with Ritchie for the third time, having previously appeared together in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. González also had a role as a villain in Apple TV+’s Fountain of Youth. Meanwhile, Jake Gyllenhaal is reuniting with Ritchie for a second project following their 2023 film, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.
With In the Grey hitting theaters soon, 2026 promises to be a busy year for director Ritchie. He’s also working on Wife & Dog, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike. Plus, he recently directed two episodes of the series Young Sherlock.
The thriller In the Grey stars Kristofer Hivju, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jason Wong, Michael Vu, Fisher Stevens, Pike, and Carlos Bardem, in addition to the film’s main leads. Guy Ritchie wrote, directed, and produced the movie, with John Friedberg, Dave Caplan, and Atkinson also serving as producers.
In the Grey will be released in theaters on May 15, 2026.
