I’ve been eagerly awaiting Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s new movie, The Bride!, and it’s almost here! The film, starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, recently released a trailer, which Jake Gyllenhaal shared online along with heartfelt praise for his sister, the director.
The Road House star recently filmed with two internationally beloved directors in Guy Ritchie (for the action-drama In the Grey opposite Henry Cavill) and M. Night Shyamalan (for the psychological thriller Remain), but one can assume that getting to work on his older sibling’s second movie meant just a little bit more on an emotional level. Speaking to that, Gyllenhaal hit up Instagram with only kind words, as seen below:
I’ve always deeply admired my sister, and she’s one of the most inspiring people I know. She’s incredibly talented, especially as an artist, and I’m so proud to be involved in her new film. It’s going to be amazing! Get ready – she’s a force to be reckoned with!
So, who does Jake Gyllenhaal admire even more than Maggie? Let’s hope it’s not Victor Frankenstein – that would be awkward!

Honestly, the heartfelt message Harrison Ford shared was genuinely touching and encouraging – he’d be proud of it even if he wasn’t in the movie! We do get a glimpse of him in the new trailer for the film, but it’s a bit worrying. It looks like trouble for his character, Ronnie Reed, as he’s being held at gunpoint by Buckley’s Bride in front of a crowd of well-dressed people, which doesn’t exactly scream ‘happy ending’ for him.

If his character dies, I’m sure it will be in a dramatic and memorable way. You can’t just kill off a brother without making a big deal out of it.
This isn’t the first time Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal have worked together. They first appeared in the same film, 1993’s A Dangerous Woman, which was directed by their father, Stephen. He also directed them in 1998’s Homegrown. Later, they played on-screen siblings in the 2000 cult favorite Donnie Darko, and Jake starred in Maggie’s first film as a director, the 2021 psychological drama The Lost Daughter, which also featured Jessie Buckley of The Bride.

In addition to The Bride! and two previous films by Ritchie and Shyamalan, Jake Gyllenhaal is currently working on Road House 2. He was also previously involved in a television series based on the comic Nemesis (produced by the Russo brothers), and the thriller Collision.
But before all that, you can see him starring alongside two iconic horror monsters in The Bride!, which arrives in theaters on March 6, 2026. Let’s hope the delays in getting the film released were worth the wait!
