As a huge DC fan, I was thrilled to see Superman do so well this summer! It’s fantastic that James Gunn is already moving forward with Kal-El’s story. He’s deep into pre-production on Man of Tomorrow, which is set to start filming next spring and come out in July 2027. With everything happening in the DC Universe – including that wild Peacemaker finale and the introduction of Salvation – everyone’s buzzing with theories about what Man of Tomorrow will be about, especially now that we know Brainiac is going to be the big bad. While Gunn is busy and can’t address every rumor, he is taking the time to set the record straight on a few things as we eagerly await official news.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn addressed a rumor on Threads about casting for the role of Steve Trevor in the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow. Someone posted that casting had begun, and Gunn simply replied, “Nope.” You can see a screenshot of the conversation shared by the DC Film News X account.

When Will Steve Trevor Be Introduced in the DCU?
Steve Trevor is a key figure in Wonder Woman’s history, making it likely he’ll appear in the new DC Universe (DCU) at some point. Many movie fans know him as the World War I pilot played by Chris Pine in previous DC films. While often associated with the past, Steve Trevor has also appeared in comic books set in the present day, which fueled speculation about him appearing in projects like Man of Tomorrow. Because of his military background and connections to organizations like ARGUS, he could be a valuable character in building out the DCU’s version of both ARGUS and the U.S. government.
If Steve Trevor isn’t in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie, it makes you wonder when he’ll appear in the new DC Universe. The most likely possibility seems to be the Wonder Woman reboot currently in development, but that’s not certain. His relationship with Diana Prince was central to the previous two Wonder Woman films, so James Gunn and the team might be choosing a new path for the character. Instead of repeating old storylines, they could explore different aspects of Wonder Woman’s mythology in her first DCU appearance. However, showing Steve in the present day – perhaps through an organization like ARGUS – could offer a fresh take on the character.
We don’t yet know when the new DC Universe Wonder Woman movie will be released. It’s probably several years off, as the script is still being written. James Gunn has stated that no actors will be cast until the script is complete. Unless Steve Trevor appears in another DC project soon—which doesn’t seem likely given what’s currently planned—fans will have to wait to see him on screen again. This is probably a good thing, though, as it gives the DCU’s version of Wonder Woman time to distance itself from the mixed reception of Wonder Woman 1984. It also shows that DC is taking its time and carefully building its shared universe.
We should hear official news about who will play Superman in the upcoming film sometime in 2026. James Gunn is currently preparing for production, which begins in April, so he’s working hard to finalize everything. Everyone is excited to find out which actors and characters will appear, especially who will play Brainiac. Fans are also curious to see which other DC characters will be included in the movie.
