Jenelle Evans Shares Update on Son Jace in Mental Health Facility

Jenelle Evans is making moves behind the scenes.

A little more than a month after her 16-year-old son, Jace, entered a mental health facility following an incident where he threatened his grandmother with a gun, the former Teen Mom star shared a new update on his progress that hadn’t been revealed before.

She explained that people often assume her silence means she’s inactive, but she wants them to know that she’s actually always working on something when she’s quiet.

Jenelle shared on the April 13th episode of Dr. Rachel Mason’s La Femme Talk podcast that she’s been quietly seeking help for her son. She revealed he’s now in a safe environment where he’s receiving comprehensive care and is doing well. This is something she hadn’t told anyone else.

She continued, “He’s very focused on himself and I think that’s the most important thing.”

Jenelle also issued a response to the fans that have interpreted her silence for apathy. 

It really echoes what she said a few weeks ago – she just wants everyone to give her family some space and respect their privacy right now, and I completely understand that. It’s a difficult time, and they deserve that much.

In a TikTok posted on March 28th, she explained she’s doing everything she can to support her child and make the best decisions for him, adding that it’s a private matter.

Jenelle’s mother, Barbara, called 911, and told them the family was searching for the best place to help Jace with his specific needs, a representative confirmed to Entertainment Weekly on March 11.

Jenelle wanted to address her involvement in her son’s life, especially as they deal with his mental health challenges, and let her fans know where she stands.

In a TikTok posted in March, she stated, “I’m not the bad guy here, and you’ll all realize that eventually.”

Jenelle, who shares 11-year-old Kaiser with her ex, Nathan Griffith, and 9-year-old Ensley with her ex, David Eason, asked for privacy, saying, “Please give my family and me some space to breathe.”

Jace was admitted to a mental health facility after an incident on February 22nd involving his grandmother, Barbara Evans, who had been his guardian for much of his life. He reportedly threatened her with a gun.

Jenelle’s mother, Barbara, called 911, and confirmed to Entertainment Weekly on March 11th that they were searching for the best treatment facility for Jace to address his specific needs.

I’ve been following Jenelle’s story for a while now, and she really wanted to address everyone’s questions about her involvement with her son, especially as they’re all dealing with his mental health. She wanted to set the record straight about where she stands and how she’s supporting him through everything.

In 2022, the family returned to Beacon Heights Trail in North Carolina – the same place where David proposed to Jenelle in 2016 – to celebrate the Fourth of July. Jenelle, who previously starred on MTV, shared on Instagram how happy she was to share the special location and experience with their children.

Jenelle playfully wondered where her daughter Ensley got her confident attitude, noting how much the two resemble each other. She captioned the post with ‘#Twinning’.

In August 2023, Jenelle shared a heartfelt birthday message to her son, Jace, on Instagram. She wrote, “Happy Birthday to Jace! You’re becoming such a polite young man, and your happiness is all I care about!”

Jenelle sent her kids back to school in August 2023.
