Sky has released a trailer for its new show, The Five Star Weekend, featuring Jennifer Garner and Gemma Chan. The trailer hints at a story filled with both happy and sad moments.
I just got a sneak peek at this new drama coming to Sky and NOW in July, and let me tell you, it’s gorgeous! Think sun-drenched visuals and a really polished feel. It’s based on a hugely popular book series, so fans are already buzzing, and I can see why – it looks fantastic. If you’re in the UK or Ireland, mark your calendars!
The story centers around Hollis Shaw, played by Garner, a popular chef and cookbook author who’s known for her amazing food and friendly personality.
Despite appearing to have a perfect life, things begin to fall apart for her after a significant loss. Her marriage is struggling, her relationship with her daughter is difficult, and she relies too much on approval from her followers.
Hollis invites four friends, each representing a different chapter of her life, to her Nantucket home for a weekend of honest conversation. But the retreat quickly turns unexpected as hidden truths emerge and old boundaries are tested, making it a getaway none of them will forget.
The new trailer introduces Chan, D’Arcy Carden, Regina Hall, and Chloë Sevigny as the friends who accompany Hollis on a weekend trip. It’s the first glimpse of them in action.
The trailer opens with Gigi, played by Chan, telling Hollis, “He’s gone, and now you have to live.” The tone quickly shifts, and Brooke, portrayed by D’Arcy Carden, asks, “Shouldn’t she deserve to know the truth, even if it’s painful?”

Harlow Jane plays Hollis’s daughter, and the film also stars Timothy Olyphant, Judy Greer, Rob Huebel, and David Denman.
I was really excited to see Tory Devon Smith in the cast, alongside some fantastic actors like Josh Hamilton, Roberta Colindrez, West Duchovny, and Morrison Keddie. It’s a great ensemble!
Bekah Brunstetter, Sue Naegle, Ali Krug, Jennifer Garner, Elin Hilderbrand, Merri Howard, Beth Schacter, and Minkie Spiro are the executive producers of the show.

As a critic, I always like to know who’s behind the scenes, and for this series, it’s Universal Content Productions – part of the larger Universal Studio Group. I learned that Lucy Criddle, Sky’s Director of Acquisitions & Strategic Projects, was the one who brought this project to the network. It’s good to see experienced people like her recognizing worthwhile content.
Criddle expressed excitement about adding the series to Sky and NOW this summer, calling it a captivating, character-driven drama based on a popular novel. He highlighted the show’s strong cast, led by Jennifer Garner, as a great fit for their programming.
The Five Star Weekend will debut in July on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland.
