Jennifer Lopez was into Brett Goldstein from the start.
The actress, known for her role in Office Romance, shared that she and Brett, her co-star in the new Netflix romantic comedy, quickly connected and felt at ease with each other.
Jennifer told People magazine that she and her co-star immediately connected. She explained that their bond deepened as they worked on the movie together.
Jennifer was initially surprised to meet the actor who plays Roy Kent on Ted Lasso, as she’d only known him through his character before.
I honestly thought he’d be tougher,” the 56-year-old confessed. “Instead, he’s a really kind, gentle, and surprisingly intelligent person – and very likeable. It definitely wasn’t what I anticipated.”
Jennifer shared that she’d been a big fan of the actor ever since his role in Ted Lasso. She especially loved his character, Roy Kent, and admitted she’d expected him to be more like that tough persona in real life. Instead, she found him to be very gentle and kind, a pleasant surprise.
Brett, age 45, co-wrote the film with Joe Kelly and was a longtime admirer of Jennifer’s previous projects. He shared that he and Joe actually created the script hoping she would star in it.
Brett shared with People magazine that when they began brainstorming for a romantic comedy star, both he and his co-writer immediately thought of Jennifer Lopez. He explained that writing the script felt natural with J.Lo in mind, as she excels in the genre. Their goal was to create a funny and clever story that would appeal to her and convince her to star in it.

The new Netflix film, premiering June 5th, features Jennifer as the head of a large company who begins a secret romance with her new employee, played by Brett. They soon become engaged in a passionate affair.
And from the moment Jennifer read the script, she knew it was a movie she wanted to be part of.
She remembered being told that the movie wouldn’t be made unless she starred in it. They had written the script specifically for her. Thankfully, she and her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, thought it was hilarious and she agreed to do it, as she shared on Sirius XM’s BPM in April.

The movie definitely feels like a nod to Jennifer Lopez’s previous romantic comedies, but it brings a fresh and modern energy to the genre.
She described the movie as having a bit more of an edge than Jennifer Lopez’s typical romantic comedies, but still containing all the familiar elements that make the genre so enjoyable – like characters you genuinely connect with and root for.
