The release date for Jill Halfpenny’s upcoming Paramount+ thriller, formerly known as Baby Doll and now titled Girl Taken, has been announced.
The new six-episode series will premiere on January 8, 2026. Along with the announcement, Paramount has shared some initial photos.
Right from the start, the series grabs you with its central characters. We meet Eve, brilliantly portrayed by Jill Halfpenny, and her daughters, Lily and Abby – wonderfully played by the young Tallulah and Delphi Evans. But it’s Alfie Allen who truly chills as Rick Hansen, the teacher who quickly reveals himself to be something far more sinister – a kidnapper and abuser. The visuals immediately establish the complex and disturbing relationships at the heart of the story.
The show is inspired by Hollie Overton’s novel, Baby Doll, and centers around twin sisters, Lily and Abby. The story begins when Lily is kidnapped from their peaceful hometown by Rick, a well-liked teacher in the community.

After being held captive and mistreated for years, Lily finally escapes, but finds that freedom isn’t easy. The world she dreamed of returning to has changed, and she struggles to find her place in it.

After years of captivity, Abby and Lily are home with their mother, Eve, but rebuilding their family won’t be easy. They’re still dealing with the trauma of their past and the frightening knowledge that Rick, the man who took them, remains at large and is trying to manipulate the truth to avoid facing consequences. Girl Taken is a powerful and moving story about healing, the strength of sisterhood, and the difficult journey to take back control of your life.

The series will feature a talented cast including Halfpenny, Allen, Tallulah and Delphi Evans, alongside Vikash Bhai, Niamh Walsh, Levi Brown, Victoria Ekanoye, Holly Atkins, and Kiran Krishnakumar.
David Turpin (The Cuckoo), Suzanne Cowie (The Good Ship Murder), and Nessah Muthy (Grantchester) wrote the scripts for the series, based on the novel by Overton. Laura Way (Maxine) and Bindu de Stoppani (Beyond Paradise) directed the episodes.

You can start watching ‘Girl Taken’ on Paramount Plus beginning January 8th, 2026. The first season is currently available for streaming. New subscribers can try Paramount Plus for free for seven days through Amazon Prime Video.
