Joanna Lumley speaks out in defence of immigration: “We don’t own anything, we don’t own the land”

Joanna Lumley, known for her role in ‘Amandaland,’ recently spoke with TopMob magazine about how immigrants are discussed and treated, urging everyone to show more kindness.

In a recent interview with Ginny Dougary, set to be published on April 28th, Joanna Lumley discussed the debate over whether actors should be allowed to share their opinions publicly.

If you deeply believe in something and sense it’s causing harm or division among people you care about, it’s important to speak up and share your perspective.

We’re all simply living beings, not owners of the land itself. We’re just people sharing this planet. Many of those arriving here are escaping truly awful situations back home.

People don’t want to leave their homes. However, when life becomes unbearable – whether due to lack of work, persecution, natural disasters like drought and famine, or war – we need to show understanding. We should simply be more compassionate.

Lumley is a well-known activist who has consistently supported causes like indigenous rights through Survival International, and animal welfare and conservation through organizations such as Born Free Foundation, Population Matters, and Tree Aid.

Next, Lumley will appear in season two of Amandaland, a comedy series that spun off from the popular BBC show Motherland, and she’ll be acting with Lucy Punch.

In Season 2, Amanda from Punch will continue building her online brand, ‘Senuous,’ and will even be speaking at her son’s school during a career day event.

Jenny Lumley will return as Felicity, Amanda’s critical and controlling mother. Fans last saw Felicity reconnecting with her sister Joan – played by Jennifer Saunders, Lumley’s co-star from ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ – in the show’s 2025 Christmas episode.
