Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen has started adapting the Culling Game arc, and Crunchyroll has released a helpful video explaining the complex rules of this new tournament. As the anime moves towards its climax, based on Gege Akutami’s manga, the Culling Game sets the stage for a dangerous competition where Yuji Itadori and other remaining sorcerers will face new allies and enemies in the weeks to come.
The biggest problem with the recent ‘Culling Game’ story arc is how complicated the tournament is. The latest episode had to spend a lot of time explaining all the rules, which aren’t as simple as just fighting opponents. Players have to earn points in specific areas and use those points to try and change the rules in order to escape. Luckily, Crunchyroll has released a new video that quickly breaks down all the confusing details for Jujutsu Kaisen fans.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Faces Its Biggest Culling Game Problem
The latest arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, “The Culling Game Part 1”, started strong with a special two-part premiere featuring Yuta Okkotsu and exciting battles. However, the following episode took a dramatic turn when Yuji and his friends learned the truth about the Culling Game from Tengen. It was revealed to be a scheme by Noritoshi Kamo – whose true identity is Kenjaku – to collect more cursed energy.
The Shibuya Incident was a deliberate act by Kenjaku to unlock the cursed energy within people who had hidden potential. This resulted in a surge of newly powered individuals who are now being forced to compete in a deadly tournament called the Culling Game within 19 days. Kenjaku’s goal is to collect more cursed energy and ultimately transform humanity into a single, monstrous being. The rules of the Culling Game are incredibly complex and require a detailed explanation to fully understand.
What’s Next for the Culling Game?
Although the Culling Game arc’s battles and rules were the weakest part of the story so far, the anime has a chance to improve in future episodes by adapting the manga more effectively. The upcoming parts of the story introduce many new characters, some of whom weren’t fully developed in the original manga. The anime can build on these characters, giving them more depth and detail when needed.
The Culling Game mainly served as a setup for intense battles showcasing incredible abilities, and that’s what viewers are most looking forward to. While the anime won’t be focusing on detailed storytelling for a while, fans can expect a constant stream of action from now on.
