This month has been quite challenging for all gaming consoles; it’s no secret that the Xbox Series X|S, which has been experiencing a decline for some years, saw another 69% drop compared to the same period last year. Similarly, the original Nintendo Switch also experienced a 52% decrease in sales year-over-year. Notably, only the upcoming Switch 2 was able to show an increase in sales.
The PlayStation 5 remains the second most popular console this year in terms of sales, however, it’s clear that the newly released Switch 2 is significantly leading the pack, with already over two million units sold.
In terms of software sales, EA Sports College Football 26 launched as the third top-selling game of 2025 up to this point, boasting an impressive launch month. Similarly, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 performed well, debuting fourth overall across all formats and third on the PS5 platform in particular.
In summary, overall industry spending experienced a 5% annual rise, reaching an impressive $5.1 billion figure. However, it’s worth noting that a significant portion of this growth is attributable to the popularity of the Switch 2 at present.
