Movie fans will have to wait a little longer to see the next Jumanji film. Sony Columbia Pictures announced today that the release date has been pushed back from December 13th to Christmas Day, December 25th.
As a big movie fan, I was relieved to hear that Jumanji 3’s release date was pushed back two weeks, now avoiding a direct clash with another major film on December 18th. Honestly, it’s tough for smaller movies when two blockbusters open so close together – they often get squeezed out of theaters. A week earlier, Jumanji 3 would have been right in the firing line, and I was worried it wouldn’t have had a fair chance.
Jumanji 3 Becomes a Christmas Release
Releasing Jumanji 3 during the Christmas season is a smart move. While it doesn’t ensure success alongside other big releases like Dune, Christmas is usually a good time for family movies. Parents are often looking for something to do with their kids after opening gifts, and Jumanji 3 is a better fit for that than films like Dune: Part Three or Avengers: Doomsday.
Released on December 20th, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a huge success, earning over $960 million globally and becoming the fifth highest-grossing movie of 2017. Hopefully, the Jumanji franchise will continue to do well during the holiday season in 2026.
Fans Have Been Waiting for Jumanji 3
It’s been seven years since the last Jumanji movie, and fans are excited for the new installment! The film features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, who play characters stuck inside the dangerous world of the Jumanji game.
I was so excited when Jumanji: The Next Level came out in 2019, after really enjoying Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle! It did great in theaters, bringing in $800 million worldwide, but not quite as much as the first one. Honestly, I think the next Jumanji movie is super important for the franchise. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new one, and with so many other big movies coming out, Sony really needs to pick the perfect release date to give it the best shot at doing well.
In addition to Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, Jumanji 3 (though the official title hasn’t been announced yet) features the return of Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Danny DeVito, Rhys Darby, Bebe Neuwirth, and Lamorne Morris. Joining the cast for the third movie are newcomers Brittany O’Grady, Burn Gorman, and Dan Hildebrand.
Jake Kasdan, the director of the first two Jumanji movies, returned to direct the third installment. He worked with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg on the screenplay. Jumanji 3 will be released in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25th.
