In Japan, cities are under siege by monstrous creatures known as Kaijus. The Japanese Self-Defense Forces are valiantly defending urban areas, while cleanup crews nationwide work tirelessly to manage the chaos. Meanwhile, an ordinary city worker named Kafka inadvertently picks up a parasite from one of these beasts, resulting in his transformation into a superhuman entity with extraordinary strength and regenerative abilities. This week, Funko is launching a line of collectible figurines based on the hugely popular anime, featuring characters straight from the first season.
In this story, the principal characters Kafka, Mina Ashiro, Kikoru, and Reno all show up, along with Kafka’s transformed Kaiju hybrid known as Kaiju No. 8. Notably, both Mina and Kaiju No. 8 have special versions, often sought after by collectors, called Chase versions. The second installment of the widely acclaimed new anime series, “Kaiju No. 8,” is scheduled for global release on July 19th. As reported by Nick Valdez from Comicbook, this season will first air in Japan on the same date, and much like its predecessor, will be accessible outside of Japan through both X and Crunchyroll streaming platforms. An additional episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off” is set to debut in Japan on July 5th prior to the new season’s premiere, though it remains undecided whether this special episode will also stream via Crunchyroll or only through X.
