Kat Dennings is a rare case in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – her character, Darcy Lewis, wasn’t originally from the Marvel comics. Darcy first appeared as a friend to Jane Foster in the first two Thor films, then played a significant role in the WandaVision series. She’s also had a cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder and appeared in different forms throughout the What If…? series. This naturally leads to the question of whether Dennings will return to play Darcy in future Marvel films or TV shows, and her response to that question was quite amusing.
Kat Dennings is currently appearing alongside Tim Allen in the show Shifting Gears. While discussing her series, she was asked by Entertainment Tonight about a possible return in Avengers: Doomsday, and she gave a funny answer.

Okay, so I thought it was hilarious when Kat Dennings initially mistook the title Doomsday for an episode of Shifting Gears – can you imagine?! And, like everyone else when talking Marvel, she played coy about any future MCU stuff. But she really made it clear she wasn’t in Avengers: Doomsday. Then it hit her – because Marvel has already scanned her for digital likenesses, they could technically put Darcy Lewis into anything they want, even without her knowing! It’s a little creepy, but also kinda cool, right?
So, I’ve been following the buzz, and it looks like fans hoping to see Darcy Lewis back in Avengers: Doomsday are going to be disappointed – again. Kat Dennings hasn’t confirmed anything about Avengers: Secret Wars either, and honestly, with her busy shooting Shifting Gears, I’m guessing it would be tough to fit it in, especially as we wrap up The Multiverse Saga. But here’s where my brain went: when Dennings said, “I’m in the system,” it immediately reminded me of that hilarious scene with Michael Peña’s Luis in Ant-Man – that rapid-fire storytelling is just iconic!
I’m a little sad to hear Darcy Lewis won’t be joining the fight against Doctor Doom, but honestly, the lineup they’ve assembled is incredible! We’ll get to see all the big names – Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Black Panther, Loki, and even Steve Rogers again! Plus, they’re bringing in the New Avengers (formerly the Thunderbolts), the Fantastic Four we met in First Steps, and a bunch of X-Men characters with the original actors reprising their roles. And the best part? Joe and Anthony Russo are directing both Doomsday and Secret Wars, just like the last two Avengers films, with Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron handling the writing for both movies. It’s going to be epic!
With the release of Avengers: Doomsday on December 18th getting closer, you can rewatch Kat Dennings’ previous Marvel Cinematic Universe roles anytime with a Disney+ subscription. If you’d like to see her new show, Shifting Gears, it airs on ABC Wednesdays at 8 pm Eastern Time, and new episodes become available on Hulu afterward.
