Kerry Washington learned how to tear up the floor from Jennifer Lopez.
Interestingly, the actress known for her role in Scandal actually learned to dance from Jennifer Lopez. They both spent time at the same Boys & Girls Club when they were growing up in the Bronx, New York.
Kerry mentioned on the April 14th episode of the Good Hang With Amy Poehler podcast that Jennifer is only slightly older than her, and when they were at the club, Jennifer was considered one of the older, more mature members.
When Kerry’s dance teacher, Larry Maldonado, was ill and hospitalized in the 1980s, Jennifer stepped up to take over teaching the class.
Kerry, age 49, shared that Jennifer used to teach dance classes to young girls. Jennifer was about ten years older than Kerry when she was a child, and Kerry took hip-hop and flamenco lessons from her. “I learned to dance from Jennifer,” Kerry said.
“She’s never hired me to dance in any of her videos,” Kerry joked. “I don’t know what that says.”
Just before 56-year-old Jennifer moved from the Bronx to Los Angeles, she danced for her class, performing a duet with her dance instructor, Larry.
The performance was quite daring – something we weren’t allowed to see. I remember the younger girls playfully telling us it wasn’t for us. Later, during the dance program, we all snuck backstage to watch it anyway. It was stunning, and the performer was beautiful. She’s always been a huge inspiration to me.

Kerry shared how that encouragement aided her as she began her Hollywood career, a story she recounted while honoring Jennifer Lopez with the Equity in Entertainment Award at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment event last December.
Kerry shared that when Jennifer moved from New York to Los Angeles to follow her dream of working in entertainment, it showed Kerry what it meant to be bravely creative. Seeing Jennifer perform as a Fly Girl on In Living Color every Sunday also inspired Kerry to pursue her own individual goals.
She really inspired me, starting with her amazing performance in Selena and continuing through all her subsequent films. She showed me how to believe in things others might think are impossible, and to open my heart and mind to those possibilities.

When the actress from Save the Last Dance was having a tough time, she’d remind herself of Jennifer, thinking, “Jen could handle this. She went through this, and I knew her.” She felt a strong connection to Jennifer, like they were part of the same group.
It sounds dramatic, but it’s true: Jennifer Lopez paved the way for people like me, Kerry Washington. And the amazing thing is, I’m just one of countless others who feel the same way.

Nicole has always loved the films made by her sister-in-law. A few years ago, she got the chance to ask her to recreate some memorable scenes, including a moment from the movie My Best Friend’s Wedding.
During a May 2024 appearance on the Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino podcast, she recounted a story about asking Cameron to help with something in Chicago. She explained she needed Cameron to run towards her from behind a luggage cart, heading into the airport. She added that at one point during a car ride, she was directing Cameron to say specific things, and Cameron willingly complied, which she described as very kind.

It’s a good thing Lawrence was available to spend time with Schumer, or they might have missed out on a wonderful friendship! Their connection started when the Oscar-winning Lawrence emailed Schumer after seeing her 2015 movie, Trainwreck. Lawrence confessed she was immediately smitten, writing, ‘I don’t know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I’m in love with you.’ That led to a back-and-forth of emails and texts. But their friendship really took off when Schumer casually invited Lawrence to join her and her high school friends for a trip to the Hamptons. Schumer was surprised Lawrence accepted, but quickly realized Lawrence was incredibly down-to-earth. ‘She’s the coolest person you’ll ever meet,’ Schumer said on The Daily Show, ‘and she fit right in with the group.’

Everyone could use a friend who’s successful and well-established! Jennifer Lopez and Sofia Vergara have been incredibly close ever since they met and instantly connected at the premiere of Man on Fire in 2004. Lopez described it as an immediate and strong chemistry – she just loved being around Vergara and felt a real connection.
Vergara was also enthusiastically cheering on Lopez when she performed at President Joe Biden’s inauguration. She messaged Lopez, telling her that as a fellow Bronx native, her performance was truly inspiring and beautiful to watch.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by genuine friendships, and the bond between Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow is truly special. They’ve been incredibly close since their early days working together at Warner Brothers – practically since they were sharing salads on set! What’s so lovely is that growing up together and navigating the huge experience of filming Friends created a bond that’s lasted. It’s similar to how you stay connected with people from your first job – they make a point of scheduling regular get-togethers, from casual happy hours to bigger reunions. Luckily, living relatively close to each other makes it easy to keep those traditions going – think Sunday dinners at Courteney’s or pool parties at Jen’s. They really feel like family, and I’m told they always will be.

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have been incredibly close friends ever since they met in an improv class in 1993, and they consider each other family. Poehler, who has one younger brother named Greg, explained to PopSugar while promoting their 2015 movie Sisters that she and Fey are like “chosen sisters” and have created the family bond she always wanted.

Philipps described meeting Williams on the set of Dawson’s Creek as love at first sight. They quickly became close friends, bonding over shared activities like drinking wine, smoking, and even getting into trouble. She explained they immediately felt a strong connection and affection for each other, a feeling that has lasted for years. Now, fans get a glimpse into their enduring relationship as they navigate red carpets, coordinate outfits, and occasionally give Williams a playful pink hair makeover.

Drake and Adele, despite only recently considering a partnership, are eager to work together. After years of admiring each other’s music – they’ve won 19 Grammy Awards combined – they started talking about a possible collaboration. Adele mentioned wanting to create an official remix, sharing her fondness for Drake and even revealing she’d recently purchased the red coat he wore in a music video. Drake playfully responded that he’d do anything for Adele, even chores! Instead of immediately recording, they opted for a casual outing, enjoying a meal and a bowling trip in Los Angeles. It seems a collaboration is definitely in the works – they’re just taking their time!

After receiving invaluable support from other women during her pregnancies, Washington has made it a priority to offer the same to her celebrity friends. She shared with Entertainment Tonight that she aims to have open and honest conversations, particularly with Eva Longoria. Longoria greatly appreciated Washington’s guidance when she welcomed her son, Santiago, in 2018, playfully referring to Washington as “basically my doula.”

Over two decades after winning an Academy Award for Good Will Hunting, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are collaborating again on The Last Duel. Despite not working together on screen for a while, their close friendship remains strong. Damon shared with Entertainment Tonight back in 2016 that they’ve known each other for 35 years and essentially grew up together, united by a shared passion for acting and filmmaking. He believes this mutual obsession during their younger years created a lifelong bond.

The friendship between two prominent television personalities began in 1976 while they worked at a Baltimore TV station. Although Oprah Winfrey was an anchor and Gayle King a production assistant, and they didn’t usually mix socially due to the workplace structure, a snowstorm brought them closer. Oprah invited Gayle, who earned $12,000 a year as a PA, to stay with her. The next day, they went shopping together at the mall, and a lasting friendship blossomed over sweaters at Casual Corner.

While your dates probably don’t involve Wimbledon finals or royal palaces, Meghan Markle and Serena Williams’ friendship started just like many others—with casual conversation. Meghan wrote on her now-defunct website, The Tig, that they connected instantly at a 2014 Super Bowl event. They spent time taking pictures, laughing during a flag football game, and chatting about everyday things—not tennis or acting, but typical ‘girly’ topics.

Even though Game of Thrones has ended, the close bond between Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams remains strong. Williams, who was a bridesmaid at Turner’s wedding to Joe Jonas in 2019, playfully suggests that the show’s greatest achievement wasn’t its 12 Emmy Awards. She told TopMob News at the final season premiere that the series felt like a long and complex journey to find her best friend. While joking, she emphasized how much she values their friendship, calling it a true blessing amidst the show’s intense and often chaotic environment.

Everyone’s heart probably melted seeing Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s adorable reaction when their oldest daughter, James, recognized Taylor Swift’s song “Gorgeous” at a concert! Lively later joked about the viral video, telling Robin Roberts on Good Morning America that it perfectly captured how proud (and maybe a little overbearing) they were as stage parents.
But beyond that sweet moment, the friendship between the families – filled with Fourth of July celebrations at Taylor’s Rhode Island home, visits to Reynolds and Lively’s country house, and appearances in Swift’s music videos – is genuine and something to cherish.

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon have a strong friendship that actually started years ago, before their Apple TV+ show, The Morning Show. They first worked together on an NBC series back in 2000. Witherspoon, who had recently given birth to her daughter Ava, remembers being 23 and breastfeeding on set. Aniston kept asking about the baby, and Witherspoon felt a little awkward explaining while also needing to pump breast milk. Despite her initial nervousness, Witherspoon said Aniston was incredibly kind, and they’ve been close friends ever since.

Their unlikely friendship blossomed at Justin Bieber’s Comedy Central Roast in 2015, and was further cemented by their VH1 cooking show, Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party. Snoop Dogg explained to LA Weekly that Martha Stewart was different from people he usually hangs out with, but surprisingly relatable. He appreciated that she was genuine and down-to-earth, saying she always understood him and never shocked him with her opinions. He described their connection as feeling like a true partnership, joking it was “holy matrimony, not holy macaroni.”
