officially has a new streaming home. Unfortunately, that doesn’t bring fans any closer to Chapter 2.

The first part of Kevin Costner’s ambitious film, Horizon: An American Saga, is now available to stream on Prime Video. Although the movie didn’t perform exceptionally well in theaters, its arrival on Prime Video is expected to build excitement for the next chapter in the saga.

What Is Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga?

Kevin Costner not only stars in but also directed the film Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, which premiered in 2024. This is the first of four planned Western movies. The film introduces viewers to Hayes Ellison, a traveling horse trader played by Costner, and explores how his life intersects with the difficult experiences of Marigold, played by Abbey Lee, and other residents of the town of Horizon.

I was really excited for Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 because it brought together so many of my favorite actors – Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Danny Huston, and a whole bunch more! It honestly had a dream cast. It’s a shame, though, that all that star power couldn’t translate into box office success. The movie only made around $38.7 million while it was in theaters, even though it cost about $50 million to make.

The film didn’t receive much critical praise, earning mostly mixed reviews. As of today, Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 has a 51% ‘Rotten’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers seemed to like it a bit more, giving it a 70% score on the site’s ‘Popcornmeter’ based on over 2,500 reviews.

Why Fans are Still Waiting for Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2

Despite premiering in North America in February, a wide release date for Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2 is still unknown. The film has faced challenges over the last two years, but it’s still actively progressing towards release, and isn’t considered stalled in development.

Back in June 2025, a significant amount of Chapter 3 had already been filmed, and production was moving forward without major issues. As Huston explained, Costner had already shot a lot of the film. He also praised Costner’s dedication, saying he’s incredibly driven and making his vision for the project a reality in an amazing way.
