Following Avengers: Doomsday, the X-Men are getting a fresh start in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the studio plans to cast mostly young actors as these famous heroes.
So, everyone knows Jake Schreier – he directed Thunderbolts – is taking on the new X-Men movie, which is awesome! But we haven’t heard anything about who’s going to be playing the characters yet. Kevin Feige recently talked about it and had really great things to say about Schreier’s vision. He also mentioned they’re aiming for a much younger vibe with this reboot, wanting to attract a new generation of X-Men fans, which makes total sense.
Expect a Younger Cast in the X-Men Reboot
Kevin Feige described Jake as both very intelligent and a skilled filmmaker. They enjoyed working with him on Thunderbolts, and he understands what appeals to younger audiences. Feige believes this is important for the upcoming X-Men movie, which he envisions as being centered around a young cast and geared towards a younger demographic, much like the original comics.
Schreier has hinted at his plans for the project, explaining in April that he wants the reboot to feel fresh and original while still paying respect to previous movies. This might involve some changes to established story details, offering fans something they haven’t experienced before in the series.
We’ve been focusing on how to keep the series fresh and explore new directions that build on what’s come before,” he explained to ScreenRant. “The original series was so successful, and now we’re asking ourselves where we can take the story and the mythology to create something new and exciting for viewers.
Previous X-Men Stars Return for One Last Hurrah
Before Marvel introduces a new team of X-Men, they’re giving fans one last look at the original movie cast. The upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, will feature familiar faces like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming. Channing Tatum will also return to his role after first appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The future of X-Men looks bright! Season 2 of the hit animated series X-Men ’97 premieres on Disney+ July 1st. Its success is likely helping to move forward plans for a full reboot of the franchise.
The X-Men reboot does not yet have a set release date.
