The animated series “King of the Hill” is making a comeback after a fifteen-year hiatus, and the showrunner behind its Hulu revival has explained why Bobby wasn’t recast for his adult version. Rather than recasting Bobby for his grown-up years, it appears that they will age all the classic characters approximately ten years since the original series ended. This means viewers will see characters like Bobby Hill at different stages of their lives, but rest assured, Bobby’s voice will remain unchanged.
The revival of “King of the Hill” is set to present a fresh perspective on the character, Bobby, who has grown into a 21-year-old chef in Dallas. Original actress Pamela Adlon will resume her role as the adult version of Bobby. In an interview with Cinemablend, showrunner Saladin K. Patterson shared that they didn’t recast Bobby because they wanted to deliver something truly exciting for fans as the animated series makes its comeback.
Why King of the Hill’s Revival Didn’t Recast for Adult Bobby
In a discussion about the upcoming revisit, Patterson commented that Greg and he felt it best to let Pam continue voicing her character, Bobby, in its original tone without alterations. They believe this will provide a familiar and comfortable experience for fans who recognize her voice. As they put it, “Why mess with magic?” So far, the reactions to the adult version of Bobby’s voice have been positive, indicating that the team made an appropriate choice.
In a conversation at the ATX TV Festival earlier this year, Pamela Adlon shared insights about the character Bobby’s transformation, saying, “He transitioned into a mature man who can now drink beer in a bar. He’s diligent, learning that from his parents.” She continued to explain how much and yet how little Bobby had evolved, “Bobby was already a fully developed individual. He was like the Dalai Lama. He chose his path. He attracted women…as an adult, he seems more focused and somewhat like his father.
What Does This Mean for New King of the Hill?
In the continuation of “King of the Hill” with Bob Hill now grown up, there’s a wealth of fresh storylines to unfold. The initial series primarily depicted Bobby’s transformation into a distinct individual compared to his cautious father, Hank, who often fretted about the kind of person Bobby would become. However, as Bobby has matured and probably followed his culinary aspirations without delving into higher education, it provides ample opportunities for Hank to respond to his grown son’s choices.
I’m absolutely thrilled to share that I’ll be diving back into the hilarious world of “King of the Hill”! Starting August 4th, all ten episodes of Season 14 will be streaming on Hulu. Here’s a sneak peek at what we can anticipate:
After spending years in Saudi Arabia working to secure their retirement fund, Hank and Peggy are back in good ol’ Arlen, Texas. They’re catching up with old pals like Dale, Boomhauer, and Bill, but things have certainly changed around here! Meanwhile, my buddy Bobby is living it up as a chef in Dallas, making the most of his twenties alongside Connie, Joseph, and Chane. Can’t wait to join them on this new adventure!
