The popular animated series KPop Demon Hunters recently released a new short film a year after its debut, hinting at what’s coming in the next installment. I recently saw that KPop Demon Hunters finished up a fun promotion with McDonald’s this spring. They brought the film back with some animated shorts that featured the new menu items, inspired by the bands HUNTR/X and Saja Boys. It all culminated in a performance by both bands and a final animated short where HUNTR/X defeated their enemies. But the ending also hinted at what’s coming in the sequel – they’ll have to keep battling to maintain their fanbase!
HUNTR/X Will Face Off Against New Rivals in KPop Demon Hunters 2
At the heart of KPop Demon Hunters was the love Rumi, Mira, and Zoey had for their fans, and their fear of losing them. The unpredictable music industry allowed rivals, the Saja Boys, to manipulate fans and threaten the HUNTR/X group, causing them significant emotional distress. Even after defeating the Saja Boys, the underlying issue remains: the group’s unity, essential for protecting the world from demons, will always be vulnerable to those who seek to exploit the fickle nature of fame.
The next installment of KPop Demon Hunters 2 will showcase a more self-assured HUNTR/X, but a recent promotional video reminds us their success isn’t guaranteed. The need for a new fan loyalty contest proves their fanbase could easily shift to a newer group. And their challenges won’t always come from supernatural enemies; competing with other music acts – even other boy or girl groups – will be a tougher fight, one they can’t simply win by eliminating the competition.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 Will Be About Maintaining the Honmoon
The series KPop Demon Hunters concluded with HUNTR/X successfully creating the Honmoon barrier. However, it remains to be seen how they will sustain it over time. Establishing the barrier was challenging enough, but now the group faces the bigger task of maintaining their connection with fans. The production team will encounter similar difficulties as they begin work on the sequel.
In just one year, KPop Demon Hunters has become a huge success in the animation world, making it a fantastic start for a new franchise. However, that success creates high expectations for any sequel. Fans will expect even more impressive music, a better story, and plenty of surprises. Both KPop Demon Hunters and HUNTR/X will need to work hard to maintain their popularity, which makes the potential sequel a really interesting prospect.
