In recent years, the world of animation has undergone significant transformation. Traditional giants in animated feature films such as Disney Animation Studios and Pixar seem to be lagging behind the times. However, productions like “KPop Demon Hunters” demonstrate why Sony is one of the most vibrant players in today’s animation industry.
The KPop Demon Hunters series has garnered outstanding feedback and appears to be quite popular on Netflix so far, boasting strong characters and captivating storytelling. Even though it was just recently released, there is already a groundswell of demand for a follow-up, as fans eagerly anticipate more adventures of the Hunters while hoping that any potential sequel could shed light on some intriguing world-building mysteries.
KPop Demon Hunters Doesn’t Make It Clear If We Should Sympathize With ALL Demons
The Movie’s Depiction Of Its Demons Is Pretty Conflicting

In the series “KPop Demon Hunters,” Jinu stood out as a character who was portrayed in a compassionate light, despite his questionable past actions. Interestingly, all the other members of the Saja Boys and most of the other demons across the film were unequivocally wicked.
In the film’s universe, it appeared that Rumi might delve deeper into this particular topic, as she inquired from the demon they were battling if it was being manipulated by Gwi Ma. However, before the demon could respond, it was eliminated, and the remaining demons defeated at the end of Kpop Demon Hunters were only portrayed as pure malevolence without any further explanation or hints of control.
Fleshed-Out Demon Characters Beyond Rumi & Jinu Would Have Made KPop Demon Hunters Better
The Movie Could’ve Done With A Touch More Nuance

Although the film was excellent, its brief duration might have limited the exploration of demons, making the story more engaging if we had delved deeper into the concept of demons. This would have enriched the movie’s conflict and provided a broader spectrum for the development of the “KPop Demon Hunters” characters and themes.
In essence, the film appeared to convey the idea that Rumi and Jinu were the only demons considered worthy of redemption, as no other demon seemed to have a backstory or moment for reflection. All other demons were depicted as fearing Gwi Ma, suggesting they may have shared Jinu’s story, but the narrative did not provide an opportunity to explore that further.
KPop Demon Hunters Is Perfect As A First Installment If Its Sequel Is Going To Explore More Demon Characters
The Next Movie Could Explore This Concept In Greater Detail
Given that it’s likely KPop Demon Hunters will have a sequel in the future, it might be more strategic to reserve significant development for later installments, allowing this initial film to primarily concentrate on the key characters, establish the setting, and set the stage for anticipation regarding what lies ahead.
Although the film concludes with the Hunters locking away Gwi Ma and the demons, there are numerous possibilities for their return and further development. A follow-up focusing on new demons that might share traits with Jinu could enrich the universe of KPop Demon Hunters, making it even more captivating.
