It’s been nearly a year since KPop Demon Hunters premiered on Netflix and quickly became a huge success. The show has broken records, becoming the most-watched original movie ever released on the platform. Its popularity has led to exciting partnerships, including a recent collaboration with McDonald’s. To celebrate, a new animated short is being released.
The online series KPop Demon Hunters recently partnered with McDonald’s for a promotional event. This included themed meals and a competition called “Battle for the Fans” between the characters HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys. As part of the collaboration, several animated shorts were released, including a final one that reveals the winner of the competition. You can watch the short below – it features performances from the voice actors and is likely the last time we’ll see these characters together for a while.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 Now in the Works
The finale of KPop Demon Hunters, called ‘Battle for the Fans,’ featured performances by the singers of HUNTR/X and Saja Boys. Fans unlocked these performances by collecting special cards from a McDonald’s promotion – those cards are now selling online for a lot of money! While this animated series is likely finished for now, a sequel is already being planned.
A sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is in the works! Netflix and Sony have partnered with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans to create it. This deal extends beyond just one sequel, meaning fans might see even more projects from this directing duo in the future. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, it’s expected to be quite a while before the sequel arrives, considering the lengthy production process of the first film.
What’s Going to Happen in KPop Demon Hunters 2?
When KPop Demon Hunters 2 was announced, director Kang expressed how proud he was that audiences were eager to see more of the story and characters from Korea. He hinted at a much larger world waiting to be explored and promised this was just the first step. A sequel is a smart decision for Netflix and Sony, offering many possibilities and unanswered questions within the franchise’s universe.
It took almost ten years to make the first KPop Demon Hunters movie, largely because of its extensive soundtrack and the need to create a completely original world. The creators hope the second film won’t take as long, since the world and characters are already established. However, they shouldn’t feel pressured to rush it. Fans understand a great sequel is worth the wait, and would happily anticipate a follow-up that lives up to—or even exceeds—the quality of the original.
