For some time, people have been talking about a possible multiplayer Horizon game. Recently, on November 12th, details leaked online about Horizon Steel Frontiers, a new online multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe. Soon after, Sony and NCSoft officially confirmed the game with an announcement and a gameplay trailer. While fans were initially enthusiastic about the first-ever Horizon MMORPG, they quickly noticed something that concerned them.
The upcoming MMORPG, Horizon Steel Frontiers, is set in the world of Horizon and features beautiful graphics, intense post-apocalyptic battles, and vibrant environments, as shown in its reveal trailer. However, many fans are disappointed that the game will launch on mobile and PC but skip PlayStation consoles. Considering the Horizon series started as a PlayStation exclusive, some are calling the decision to exclude PS5 a major letdown.
Horizon Steel Frontiers Could Be the First Horizon Game to Skip PlayStation Consoles

The official YouTube channel for Horizon Steel Frontiers currently has two videos. The first is the game’s announcement trailer, offering a cinematic preview of the Horizon MMO world. The second is a longer gameplay trailer, giving players a look at what it will be like to play. Together, the videos offer about 13 minutes of footage showing off the potential of Horizon Steel Frontiers.
In this game, you play as a hunter tasked with tracking down the famous mechanical creatures that inhabit the world of Horizon. You’ll share the game world with other players, and can choose to team up or compete with them as you hunt machines. It’s a blend of cooperative and competitive gameplay, where players vie for rewards and resources – think Monster Hunter but set in the Horizon universe. You can watch a 3-minute gameplay trailer to get a first look!
When NCSoft announced a multiplayer game in the world of Horizon, many fans were thrilled. However, after revealing more details, some of that excitement faded. The biggest disappointment for many was the confirmation that this new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) would only be available on mobile and PC, leaving out the PlayStation consoles where the Horizon series began.
The new online game is designed to let fans experience the world of Horizon together, build a community, and create new stories. However, it won’t be released on the PlayStation platform where many players first discovered the series. According to Guerilla’s Studio Director, Jan-Bart van Beek, the game was developed by NCSoft “specifically for mobile” devices, which many fans are disappointed to hear, as it could have been a major release for Horizon enthusiasts.
Fans are expressing disappointment that the new Horizon game, Horizon Steel Frontiers, isn’t coming to PlayStation 5. Many are comparing the situation to releasing a Zelda game only on platforms other than Nintendo Switch. Comments on the announcement video and gameplay trailer highlight this frustration, with players asking NCSoft and Sony to consider a PlayStation release alongside the mobile and PC versions. While fans are excited about the gameplay and visual style, they largely want to experience this Horizon MMO on the PlayStation, where they’ve enjoyed previous games in the series.
Currently, there’s no set release date for Horizon Steel Frontiers. However, when it launches, players on PC and mobile will be able to play together.
